Nope. Even Raytheon wouldn’t claim that. They say it began operational evaluation in 2006. Opeval completed December 2006, which is when Raytheon claims it achieved IOC. The USN declared it operational in 2007.
I told you to be careful, but you ignored me.
Still two years to nothing 🙂
1. That was a test array. It’s not unusual to start off with a partially populated array for testing. I think various packing densities have been tried in ground testing. It does not imply that a production array would not be fully populated.
What’s your problem, why are you jumping at me and not the dude who posted the article. The Captor E is not a true AESA radar according to him, I just support his views rather than yours.
2. There you go again . . . . haven’t you learned anything yet? Or is it just that you’re intellectually dishonest? As you have been told many times, the total EF order by partner nations will be (it already is!) much more than the total Rafale or Gripen orders by their home countries, & infinitely more than any future US F-16 purchases, EVEN IF TRANCHE 3 IS COMPLETELY CANCELLED. And that will not happen. Two EF partners have no backup: they’re fully committed to their whole requirement. Germany is fully behind Captor-E. How is this less commitment than for Rafale?
No and any hope you have of me falling in line with you is unfounded. Apart from the two which have no option, the others notably Britain and Italy may favour more F 35s and less Typhoons. I said may so don’t jump down my throat. The whole of Europe is in recession with Germany one of the worst affected, so her commitment means not much. The French meanwhile already have a developed system.
BTW, according to the latest stuff coming out of the MoD, the thinking in the UK is now that the numbers of F-35B (not Typhoon!) will be cut, to a number which wouldn’t be enough to provide complements for both carriers and dedicated land-based aircraft for the RAF. This is leading to ferocious infighting (widely reported) between RAF & RN over who gets to control them, with the RAF trying to kill off naval aviation, & the RN trying to get all the F-35B force.
Before that it was the other way around, we will have to wait and see. They are obviously fighting for the F 35 because of its superiority over the Typhoon. Why would I fight for F 35 if I already have typhoons (RAF) unless they are superior.
APG 79 has been operational how long? Be careful in your reply . . .
And the aircraft referenced in the comparison, & favourably compared to EF, included Rafale & Gripen.
Operational since 2005. 4 Years is a long time.
I guess I should buy LM stocks.

The important part: Japan would be willing to pay $300 million each for a fleet of 100.
May Make the Americans re-think a potential sale, especially if it will enable them to have more raptors.
After the field trails the group is suppose to narrow correct???
Yes Aero India is from next week, field trials is in April.
Now please can you tell me when the SAAB Gripen his suposed to receive an AESA set?
Atleast they are fully committed, unlike the EADS partner nations.
For cost reasons, the
CAESAR array was not fully populated with T/R modules, but approximately 75 per cent.”
Recession killing of the Captor E :(. If it worsens some of the nations may cut EF orders for the F 35. We are better of with the American or French type which is fully populated Arrays.
ADA to develop MCA in association with IAF
For me this is the key. Get them involved from the design phase, so that they won’t have any room to complain later, like with the LCA.
It will have stealth features acc to this article, stealth features do not mean full stealth, So we may be looking at a 4.5 gen fighter than a 5th gen. Like the Rafale, EF, SH etc.
APG-80, like its cousins APG-77 and APG-81, uses digital traffic between its TR modules and processor. As digital gear, it can be programmed to perform many functions, including DRFM. I don’t know if that software was developed for UAE, but it is being developed for APG-77 and APG-81. A company such as Elta, a maker of DRFM systems, could undoubtedly generate the code needed to give APG-80 DRFM or other EA capability.
The F16 IN will have Sophisticated radar modes tailored for India according to Code One Magazine.
I don’t know what the fuzz is all about, with people disbelieving the level of co-operation between India and U.S. AFAIK we were discussing the missile shield with them. 😎
US-based Lockheed Martin, offering F-16, and Boeing’s F-18 “Superhornet” have emerged as the front-runners, industry sources said.
We may just as well be called that scoot, we predicted it some time ago :D.
If it´s not EA then what are those “superior EW capabilities”?
Where you refering to LPI? It sure didn´t look like it…
I was not reffering to EA. He introduced the term and then it spiralled out of control.
Thats true when it comes to manufacturing. But what about design, waiting to see an indigenously designed Chinese fighter.
No, you’ve now conveniently changed your argument. The whole discussion arose out of the question whether India could expect to receive something like electronic attack capabilities for the AESA radars delivered as part of the MMRCA deal. This is a technology which is not yet in service in the countries of origin, on the aircraft types offered to India or any others, so that’s the kind of example we’re talking about. Exporting a technology superior to, or at least on par with, *anything* available to the forces of the country of manufacture.
Actually if you read all posts, I first said EW, he was the one who started saying EA. However I strongly believe that the Growler will be part of any SH deal to India. This was a different argument where he was arguing about better fighter types not being exported, may be he misunderstood me in that case I have made it clear now.
The whole thing about EA was not putforward by me, the word was used by that user first not me. I was first and formost reffering to EW capabilities. EA is just one of them, and as you have pointed out that it has not been implemented, I will accept and move on.
I have read recently that its extreme prize, slow A2G integration and uncertainity over Captor E makes it chances very slim.
But still 126-150 of those and Pakistans entire AF will be taken care off.
If you mean the MRCA early next year. Field trials to start by April.
The funny thing is every other competitor is sending their AC for the Aero India 09 bar Dassault.
EADS is sending the entire Luftwaffe.
Can anyone suggest the prices of the six Indian MRCA contenders ?
Gripen NG
F 16 IN
Rafale
Eurofighter
F 18 E/F
MIG 35
Which makes absolute sense not to go for a programme in disarray funded by countries basically in recession.
The U.S economy may not be doing that well either, but hell they still spend a lot on R&D and their Radars are proven.
Rafale already has one ready, so it still retains its competitiveness.
