Pfcem starts a thread with the words ‘Reality‘ & ‘F-35’ in the title and wonders why everyone falls about laughing.

I guess his next thread will be called ‘Why Nunn/McCurdy is misunderstood‘.

But pcfem, you still think the F-35 is gonna cost $60m!! You’re about as credible as Reuben F. Johnson who said the Su-35 is the PAK-FA!!

…but maybe the Chief Designer is a liar! so there’s no point in developing those 2-D nozzles then, if they can’t even get the basics right huh?

You have to let it go now pfcem, these new, genuine pic(s) are indisputable.

The T-50 is what the F-35 should have been :p

…now where have I seen a similar ‘ribbed’ structure

I owe kapedani an apology, he was right (his favourite word), the MLG wheel does appear to retract into the wing root as he stated (pending photographic confirmation of-course).

However, the light grey ‘ribbed’ outer-wall of the S-duct is now clearly visible (significantly inboard of the MLG cavity), in several photos with pronounced curvature:

Stop kidding yourself, bud. It’s not that easy to make world class avionics.

…from the top picture it’s clear the sizeable lateral diversion the duct would have to make (irrespective of where the wheel goes) to bypass the MLG cavity- denoted by the underside louvres, there’s also the vertical/diagonal diversion.
Anyone with half a brain can see that.

If they do go that way it will probably require significant redesign of the aircraft….I’d wait for further confirmation.

Evgeny Marchkov is Chief Designer of the Lyulka Technical & Scientific Research Centre @ NPO Saturn, accredited with 150 technical papers.
He was quoted directly on this issue, whether it will come to fruition is another matter.

However, it does fall in line with Sukhoi’s official press release (Jan.29th) of careful attention being paid to reduce the RCS & IR signatures of the engine- but is it the best/only solution? do the pros outweigh the cons?

    Seconding medal…….WTF!!! 😮

Definitive (Phase 2) PAK-FA engine to have ‘flattened nozzle’ (2-D TVC)……are working on minimising thrust losses to 2-3% [as opposed to the F-22’s 5-7%].

Is this a dream? Evgeny Marchkov is Head of NPO Saturn’s PAK-FA engine development.

…excellent model btw Flankerman!!! tell Mr.PoGo to bin his desktop model and adopt yours instead!!

The MMRCA tender has dragged-on for so long, that the IAF & MoD may find themselves in a quite fortunate position. If the PAK-FA flight-test programme progresses with minimal glitches, it is possible that single seaters could commence deliveries to the IAF ~2017.

Also LCA mk2’s test programme will give more clues as to performance requirements being met and an in-service time frame at around the time the MMRCA tender is due to be awarded (a year from now). Maybe some tie-in can be done with the LCA engine deal, ToT & offsets for a minimal Eurocanard purchase. The ongoing upgrade programmes & Su-30 deliveries should tide the IAF over ’till 2020.

How many single-seater PAK-FAs can be purchased for ~$5bn for pre-2020 delivery (current investments notwithstanding)?……I agree with USS that clearly MMRCA is now not the only option and the Indian Govt’s price negotiating position should be considerably strengthened.
