Noted – but I don’t think we’re looking at anything scientifically meaningful here, from my point of view – I don’t know if the T20’s tail does lift simply from propwash, but I think it illustrates the behaviour well enough for our purposes.
Perhaps a Fury pilot, or someone equally qualified, can advise?
Does the tail lift from propwash alone?
will dig them out if anybody would like to see them.
No need to ask  – of course we want to see them! 😎
that 2300hp Bristol Centaurus and five bladed prop trying to torque swing it all over the place on take off….
Oh yeah – that is a problem, I just let the throttle out oh so slowly and try to catch it with the rudder – but it ain’t easy in that sense. I usually just manage to dodge all the buildings and get off on the grass after swinging first one way, then the other, down the runway ! 😀
However landing its very docile – just glide her in at 100 mph and try not to bounce.
Don’t know if that’s the prescribed manner, but it works for me.
I think you’re probably right. In the picture below you can see that the tailwheel is clearly well off the ground, while I have the brakes on. I know it’s only an FS2004 generated image, but I’m sure it’s accurate.
Incidentally, this model of the T20 is so docile, even I can fly it, is it that easy in real life? – I have the sim settings to “realistic”!
I would love to be there, and if it were a Tuesday, I definitely would be – but unfortunately I’m not available most weekends, unless I book holiday – and I’ve already planned out the season ahead.
Have a great day chaps (& chapesses).
“enjoy”
Oh well, there hardly seems any point now 🙁
There’s no way I’m going to be able to get anywhere near as good a picture as that in the future 🙁
It’s great, you b’st’rd! 😉
😀 😀 😀
by the way – Mr Moderator person – can we have some more Smilies, please? A green one, for jealousy, would seem appropriate right now. 😮
They keep you nice and warm when it’s chilly!
That’s true – ask any Policeman on traffic duty!
I watch too much TV.
😀
I think if websites aren’t updated within 8 weeks they should be automatically closed down.
And all the information contained thereon lost forever, no doubt. 🙁
I agree with Andrew, informational websites dont absolutely have to be updated regularly. It is nice if they are, but if you don’t have anything new to say, there’s no need.
I know both my personal and (more especially) business websites take up a great deal of my time – and I’m desparately trying to find ways to improve them so I can add/remove/change information without having to manually edit each page! By simply uploading or changing entries in a database, for instance.
The story locally that the pilot had been on B-24’s there during the war
Looked to see if I could find some link between B24’s & Hethel, as this might have helped ID the Pilot through his association with one of the units based there.
I took this, rather fuzzy, one at a well known Naval emporium recently:
According to some sources, the 389th Bomb Group/564th Squadron flew B-24’s from Hethel sometime during the war.
I found this thread http://www.com-web.com/wwwboard/messages/4247.html
and
http://www.com-web.com/wwwboard/messages/2539.html
and this might be a bit more interesting:
http://www.wf.net/~darilek/dar1.htm
The 389th people might be the place to start, I can’t find anything about the incident itself.
There are lots of Superfortress marks, identifying which one it is might help identify the unit.
Now this “DTS” is a surprise.
AC3/Dolby Digital is wonderful, but giving it the DTS treatment too means it will sound even better for those with DTS equipped digital converters. Which my AV receiver is 🙂 🙂
(Now lets not get into an argument over audio formats, gentlemen. I know there are some of you out there that remember, and would prefer, the sound on vinyl with a needle and trumpet! 😀 😀 )
Nice to see the old Dragonfly there, I was hoping someone would post a clearer view of it – you can just see one far off in the background of one of the earlier shots.
I can just see Mickey Rooney at the controls now, plucking that pilot out of the drink.
(Movie – “Bridges of Toko-ri” I think – no Seahawks in it though – 🙁 ).
Is Paul Day any relation to Flt Lt, Rock group drummer & DIY enthusiast Martin Day, the Tucano display pilot?
Merely curious.
