hummmm has anyone considered converting an old control towers into a house?
😮 :p 😮
More famous than any of those – our very own :
RobAnt
ex SAC Telepop RAF (1970’s) and all round good guy to boot!
😀
sorry – couldn’t resist.
Top notch – it is indeed Pendeford Airfield (now mostly a housing estate 🙁 ) near Fordhouses.
The pictures I found on this website:

As a child, in the mid 60’s (until about 14, I think) I used to live on the estate to the south of Marsh Lane – on the Junction of Arundel Road & St Annes Road, nearest the airport (St Annes Rd is a loop – Arundel Rd cuts that loop in half).
I used to attend the ATC squadron (forget the number) located in the base of the tower.
To be absolutely honest, I don’t recognise the buildings – possibly because they were much darker in the ’60’s – these are obviously quite new! Also there is a problem with the number and size of the windows – so maybe it wasn’t that building.
Wish I could dedicate more time to working on it – only have a couple of hours in the mornings – but it’s coming along.
when I work out how to get a decent video file from it
A reasonably recent computer with a dedicated (second) hard drive, a firewire (IEEE-1394) Port (or USB – preferably 2.0 – port – depending on your camera make/model), soundcard & speakers, a DVD-/+RW drive, and a copy of Pinnacle Studio 9.0 is what you need. I can help there 😉
A couple of JJ photos – they also appear elsewhere on the forum.
Just viewing preproduction copy of the edited DVD now – it’s coming along quie nicely. Menus, transitions & sound editing still to do, but the raw footage is better than I expected, which will make all that much easier, and enjoyable.
Doesn’t anybody have a clue?
Ok – this one might be a little harder:
I’ve got a little video of the take off, and a couple of lovelly passes down the display line. PM me. You’re welcome to DVD copies as required.
I’ll be cutting a DVD of the entire show (when I can get some strength back – the 21 hour day just about crucified me for the next 2), and of course JJ will be one of the features.
Andover, 1 (about 30mins) – Chipmunk, twice (about 15/20 mins each – took control (well did a couple of turns)), and – if this counts – Sedbergh Gliders 3 times (about 10-20 mins/flight).
If MD8s are still around, then they don’t count – but 4 flights if so (two return trips to the Dominican Republic) about 6-7 hours each flight.
A “preserved” Canberra!
Martin – glad you didn’t try to do anything to sharpen that fabulous Hunter shot!
Yes – the Avenger had a lot of trouble starting up again – in fact it didn’t.
This is, I think, the most they were able to coax out of her, after what must have been 10 or more attempts:
The board went down for a while, as I was about to say:
fewer annoying people etc etc
Don’t know about that I was there 😀
Last five I think – you greedy lot.
