Yep I was there until about 12.30 – ostensibly to visit XH558, but also saw this:
Exeter airport home to a number of flying Hunters, but nothing of note flying – except RNAS Culdrose & RAF St Mawgan down here.
Couple of static Lightnings though.
Does a Stinson Reliant have the ‘nickname’ blackbird?
No – Robin? 😉
what is your prefered coffee or tea?
Instant !
Ahh a certain Chipmunk is listed.
Whats going on at Abingdon?
From here (Plymouth), I guess the best option is to go to Brunty first, if the ground looks nice and firm (I believe OW has a grass airfield) – Stick around until mid-day/1pm then carry right on to OW.
What time do proceedings begin at OW?
Brunty will be open at about 9am – so although I might not see much in the way of trundling up the runway, I will certainly get to see XH558.
A very long day, none the less.
How long, do you reckon, does it take to get from Brunty to OW (or vice-versa)?
(Step forward, Alan Rickman!)
Sorry, for a moment I thought you said Rick Wakeman 😀
Well if we’re there, we could buy tickets at the same time – you know – just in case 😀
Closing? Anyway, I was sequested for a couple of weeks in, I think, 1974, to help catalogue the parts for new computer parts locationecording system (wow that long ago 🙁 ).
Fortunately, on my way there, I ate a chicken dinner in a local pub in High Wycombe, ended up with gastro somethingitus and spent a week in the medical centre instead!
Of absolutely no practical value to the thread – just spreading the word!
d’ja like it then m8?
Cheesy music, huh?
Just a word of warning fellas.
Advertising that you’re on AIM, MSN, ICQ etc could get you lots of requests from some very strange people, who trawl the net, looking for potential spamming opportunities. I removed my details from an EZBoard forum for just that reason.
Ask Snapper if he’s had any wierd requests recently 🙂
If any genuine forum users would like to be added to my MSN contacts list, then please PM me.
Yes, I expect to be there too.
I know there is actual flying going on somewhere, but as a keen supporter of XH558, I think I must really.
I remember seeing an interview on TV once about display pilot monitoring.
There was a programme shown on Discovery Wings last night (24th Apr ’04) covering accidents at airshows. Some of it was a bit too graphic for my tastes, but I stuck it out.
There is a monitoring group at (I think it was) Biggin Hill or Duxford. It wasn’t clear, at least not to me, whether this was a feature of all displays – but I got the impression it was.
The gentleman interviewed certain seemed very senior and experienced – yet enthusiastic about seeing the aircraft flown properly and in the right hands.
