That would have been impressive! As long as they stayed with Blue Vixen and not APG-65.
I wonder how the iron bomb accuracy of the F.1AZ would stack up against the A-4M with its ARBS? Or maybe the A-7D?
drop the A. You can’t land the A on a carrier but you can land the C on land.
always prioritize the Navy over the Air Force!
At this point none of the three variants can be cut and the other two survive….they would become unaffordable (as if they arent pricey enough as it is)….its all or nothing now. And it looks like (for the US at least) its going to be all.
If the South Koreans are mobilised and in wartime positions, then I imagine Seoul would suffer massive damage from arty fire, but within a day or two all that northern arty would be gone (SK has very good counter battery radars) and the NK armies shattered. If the NK air force came up in numbers, then there would be scads of SK aces. In short……the NK forces would be slaughtered.
Iv thought the same thing. In fact they could have had two varients of the F.1 off their CVs………one fighter, one attack. But, alas, money…….and the F-8 was still a perfectly viable fighter in the early 70s.
If the “A” was scrapped, I just cannot see how the other two could go ahead. Really at this point I would say scrap the lot or just push on thru and enjoy the 100+ million dollar per copy bomb truck.
The whole thing, to me, shows just how political the Jag purchase was from the French side. Im wondering how much the plan to fly Jag.M of their carriers weighed in the final descision of the French to go ahead with Jag.
QE also has exausts and intakes……….not sure how much they add to the weight tho……..
Some interesting news from the US Navy. A plan “B” if F-35 fails, and the first Iv heard of a manned combat A/C to come after F-35. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2013/03/navy-stealth-plan-b/
Another.
The AZ’s probe was also retractable, as was the Super Etendard’s……..was Dassault going through a retractable phase?
Just finished “From Tailhooker to Mudmover” by Dick Lord. Interesting read.

Dodger – Terry Pratchett
Excellent as always.
Is that a new one? Is it after “Snuff”?
