Where would the money for either of these come from?
What is a F-117/B-2? The two a/c are pretty easy to tell apart.
Thats one of the reasons I dont fly united anymore.
Its really starting to look like the second engine is going to be axed.
I’ve often read fighter procurement programs where countries insist on government to government instead of traditional agreements with a company. What exactly does that mean ? What are the benefits of such a deal ? For example in the U.S does Congress have to approve every export sale down to Humvees and spare parts or do these small items sail through ? How many potential deals get blocked or modified due to security concerns ?
Any description or links to websites detailing how the procurement process works from start from to finish would be greatly appreciated 🙂
I assume large bribes are involved………
Whole thread is moot. F-117 is no longer in service.
I seem to recall the AF wanted (in the 80s) to replace the A-10 with the F-16 armed with a 30mm gun pod. Thank goodness that went nowhere.
I would tend to agree. It seems to me Typhoon would be an ideal a/c for Japans needs.
HMS Bristol: get rid of Ikara, move Sea Dart forward, add helo hanger aft, 2 triple asw TT. 2 Quad Harpoon, 2 Goalkeeper amidships (or 2 quad Sea Wolf)…………..rip out the steam plant and install 2 more GTs.
gotta love the “will be” argument… so much certainity about an aircraft that still has to end its development, not to speak that numbers don’t necessarily add up for that claim….
There is just no getting through to the JSF kool-ade drinkers!:D
This will go on forever! If Boeing wins, Airbus sues. If Airbus wins, Boeing sues. That the US allowed itself to get in this situation is just sad.
Well….if/when the Marines get an all “B” fleet, lets hope some unforseen/unexpected structural flaw or other technical problem arises that causes the entire fleet to be grounded for extended periods of time. (unknown for that to happen I know)
“Should the UK dump the F-35”? That depends on what the British want their armed forces to be.
There has never been a plan to use the F-35B as a true VTOL machine. It’s always been intended to use it as a STOVL machine.
If you’re using EMALS to launch it, there is no justification for F-35B. You’re better off with F-35C. The point of F-35B is that it can fly off ships which do not have catapults & arrestor gear. A carrier with EMALS but no arrestor gear is also pointless. You’ve put in the more complicated & expensive gear, why not go the whole hog?
An F-35B with an F-35C wing is yet another purposeless thing. What can it do that a C can’t? It’s carrying useless weight both for what the B does & what the C does.
This is were I got the “B” with the “C” wing from. I dont think its practicle.
The Marines HAVE gotten along without STOVL a/c in the past and could do it again, the question is have they made plans for that eventuality IF it happens? Maybe an increase in the attack chopper fleet in addition to the “C”?
