There is a load of pics of the show on my homepage here is the link.http://malcolmsphotos.fotopic.net/
I was there on the friday about 4.30 when they started to come in,man the sound of that merlin made my hair stand on end 😉

I’ve been in it when Steves done an engine run, it feels as good as it sounds.
Could you send me a couple of high res copies for Steve I’m sure he’d like some.

    thanks

    mick.

    Avros response thanks to Mick.

Hi Darren, I’ve contacted Steve regarding these photo’s, he’ll have a look later and get back to me. It’s not very often he looks on here now and to be honest sometimes I don’t blame him, there’s some real drivel on here sometimes with armchair experts and book bound warriors. He’s been a bit busy over the last few months on a couple of engines as well as keeping the Spitfire flying, I think thats where he is this morning.
By the way darren, I liked the photographs you took of the Spitfire running at night, very nice, also the air to air shots of the Spitfire.

BRING BACK AVRO’S FINEST. he’s a good bloke, he just speaks his mind, I didn’t think that was against the law yet.

    Hi Darren,
Guess who’s back on the forum (A F returns ) even if only a guest appearance thanks to Mick. I hadn’t seen any photos from Walney so these two little gems are great to see, I remember seeing a whole bunch of people happy snapping as we ran through as well as when we landed on, so thanks for posting them here for the sensible people to look at.
It’s good to see things don’t change here, a bit of sniping here, a bit of bitching there, oh how I miss it.
It’s a shame the mods took the attitude they did, perhaps as Mick said before they don’t like a bloke who says it as it is – warts an all.

Still flypasts and all the forum users with common sense’s loss.

To those of you that know me, I’ll no doubt see you during the display season around and about so have a great summer, as to the sad gits with no intension of listening to other peoples views, I hope it rains on you each and every day.

    Until next time.

    Malla 1962,

That is indeed Avro’s Finest in the back. Unfortunatly he will be unable to responed as he was banned from this forum because he spoke his mind. A little oversighted, considering he is VERY involved in vintage aviation!

Another friend of his graces this forum (moocher), so I am sure one of us will let him know about your post.

The only people who have the right to complain about the number of Spitfires are those flying for the Luftwaffe in the 1940s.

What a wonderful education the show is for the Children.

What a great place to meet your friends for a day out.

What a great place to use both your sun cream and umbrella in one day!

What an electric atmosphere the place has.

    1) thats if the children can see anything, they learn quick ” I’m fed up can we go home”

    2) If you can find them among the tents, wind breaks, ladders etc.

3)Sun cream in your eyes and an umbrella up ya bum due to lack of room.

    4) People fighting for space.

Do you have any concept of what a museum is for? Would you expect the Royal Armouries museum to take medieval weapons out of cases/storage and clash them together because “that’s what they were designed to do”? Duxford is blessed with both a static, preserved, protected museum collection, and a fantastic, living, flying group of collections. In the UK we have one flyer and one taxiing airframe in non-museum hands; isn’t that enough?

The preservation, conservation and exhibition of historic or memorable artifacts. It says nothing about them having to be lifeless hulks, East Kirkby for example. An exellent airframe being conserved and preserved and exhibited to members of the public, therefore educating them as to what a Lancaster looks and sounds like while moving under its own power. Please don’t try and tell me what a museum is for.
By the way, I’ve never seen a sword or move unless a human hand is making it do so. And Lancasters never clashed into each other ( diliberatly anyway)

She looks fabulous, but has not surprisingly, has a rather ‘indoors’ dusty patina; a good rain shower would help.

This was going to be a flyer for Doug Arnold, so I wonder if it could ever be brought up to taxiiing status?

Why not it’s in no worse state than NX611, all they need are a set of ground running engines and spend some time on the brake / engine control/ props / flying control systems. The lanc maybee big, but it is a very simple aeroplane and very strong. It won’t happen though, it’s about to be entombed – bloody shame. Waste of a good airframe.

And did the combat B17s she commemorates always look immaculately turned out?

    Moggy

Can’t argue with that, but there was more than one combat B17. I’m sure that if the team looking after Sally B worked on this they could get a good bare metal paint job done for a good price. It’s time she reprisented another combat veteran.

Don’t give a toss who owns it, at least they put the right engine in it. Well done them.

    Agreed!

On my P-51 ride it was a ballache to get into the back seat, that said getting out in an emergency the canopy would have been jettisoned so not as much of a problem.

    The Sea Fury likewise.

The question is, it the risk worth it?

Thats only if the canopy dosen’t role upon jettison, they have a tendancy to do that. The late Hoof proudfoot went to great lengths going over the canopy jettison procedure. A pilot I had imense respect and admiration for.

Is the risk worth it, thats your choice, but please think of the extra responsibility the pilot takes on when you are in the back of a single seat fighter.

    Moocher,

No you are not…you are going to die.

All flying is dangerous. You measure the risk.

    Mark

10/10, and then you minimise it.

That said are you really going to get up to a height where a parachute is an option. I have only gone up that high once in a warbird. All the other times we have been to low to sensibly use one.

I’d be more concerned about getting out in a hurry on the ground.

What you have to remember is, the pilot has to be able to get out and get the seat hinged forward before you can get out on the ground. Forget what I said about spinning if you like.
I have a lot of time in these planes and i would not like to have the responsibility of getting a pax out of that if it were in trouble.
