Depends on the airport I suppose.
For the Netherlands the 3 most important airports can be found here. AMS, RTM and EIN.
I hate that 762…
I like the plane a lot! Not a big fan of the 767 family at all, but at least the US livery does suit it.
Great stuff Peter! You should post them more often, they’re really good.
I wish I could, but since I live over an hours drive away I can not get there every weekend. And now my lense has broken it may be a few weeks more till I can get a replacement.
Nice photos! Like the first biz jet photo best. The background really adds to it. At AMS we only get bad backgrounds with either a lot of ugly clutter, or a lot of nothingness.
Most of this information is considered to be confidential by the airlines
Thanks for the advice, any ideas/suggestions of how I can find out the information you suggest?
Anyway, get in contact with a few leasing companies first.
The RAF has outsourced a part of the SAR mission. The RAF has actually outsourced a lot of secondary tasks. Training for instance is done in part by private contractors. Omega Air Refueling handles a small part of the aerial refueling business.
The reason I ask is cos I am looking to set-up a low-cost airline, and was thinking about using a A320, with similar config to that of JetBlue Airways, but not sure what the competition from Boeing or other manufacturers was like, all I know is that the 737 NG aircraft are its nearest rival…
If you do intend to set up an airline, than asking for our preferred aircraft would be useless. You are not going to attract passengers just because you fly a certain plane type. Only the concorde had such appeal to the masses.
What you want to know is lease rates, fuel consumption, maintenance cost, crew cost. You will not find this information on any webforum, at best a rough indication of lease rates. Most of this information is considered to be confidential by the airlines. They do not want other airlines to know how much their bottom line is.
Maybe a silly question, what are the victory marks supposed to mean? I mean the yellow “star trek enterprises” with a red cross over it.
You can just see the marks in the first photo of reply 18, but it is more clearer in real life.
Sweden is in a generous mood lately. They also donated one to the Aviodrome in Lelystad. Arrived earlier today.

Received your PM. Remember, I got no internet at home and am not sure if I can read PMs at work. So please send future messages by the company mail I PM’ed you.
Hopefully I won’t be offline for too long.

Peter
Hi all,
for the next few days/weeks/months I will be without internet. Depending on how fast the helpdesk at my provider is. I have left my company email adress with LBArules since he seems to be the one organising the gig.
I WILL come, but it will be with ye olde VW Golf again as the Renault I bought has been sold already. Some maintenance issues I am not willing to face.
@ LBArules, you’ve got a PM.
There was zero commercial interest shown by the airlines.
The plane is too optimised to military operations. The high wing makes maintenance more difficult. Its ability for landings on rough terrains makes the plane too heavy. The plane is horribly expensive to buy when compared to its Russian counter part the IL-76 or to converted 747s and MD11s.
On top of that was a demand that the USAF could claim the BC-17s in case they needed more capacity (of course with some compensation to the airlines). This made it not practical for business as an airline has to be sure it has aircraft to run operations.
Moreover, most cargo carriers use second hand planes anyway since they are dirt cheap to buy. So buying a new plane, especially one that does not offer any real advantages over il-76s etc, is just not a viable idea.
The USAF desperately needs more cargo planes, so hopefully congress will decide to order a new batch. If they do not Boeing will be forced to close the line in the near future are the backlog of orders is getting very small.
