Havent finncomm ordered some ATR’s?
Yes, 8 ATR-42-500 plus another 8 on option. They are to replace Golden Air’s Saab 340s. Deliveries will start late this year and run to 2007. If the options are taken up they will be delivered from 2009 onwards.

Thinking about it let me put it into perspective a bit….assume 1 aircraft will be used for every daily flight into Europe..if Qatar provide the following services to feed their hub then you can see it won’t take long to use all of their A350s…
I do not know what the current routes are for Qatar. But I know that DUS is not one of them. You did list it though, what makes you think Qatar can fill a flight? Let alone two daily flights to DUS? Emirates is already very active on the route and growing hard (they often upgrade to 343). Would Qatar be able to take part of the market?
Same goes for all the middle eastern airlines really. Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, Gulf Air… they are all large airlines with very ambitious expansion plans. One or two of them will probably collapse since I doubt the demand will be there for all four of them (not even counting smaller airlines like Oman Air).
Gulf Air is co-owned by the various Emirates and will in the long term almost certainly cease to be a mayor player. Maybe even cease full stop. After all, why should individual Emirates keep this “SAS-like” airline when they each got a mayor of their own.
I do not think a collapse of Gulf Air alone will be enough though. Another airline may have to go too.
You remember the KLM flight that was rejected from US airspace a few weeks ago? It was rejected because of a passenger that was on a US no-go list. The US had received that list from Mexico, even though there are no treaties that allow the US to get Dutch passenger manifests for flights that do not end in the US.
The same rule lies behind the US’s request to get Canadian manifest.
congrats!
as far as I know:

white on the wingtips
Very interesting numbers. Some however seem rather conflicting with Boeing’s previous statement. In particular their claims about very large planes:
–900 airplanes 747-size or larger (approx. 450 airplanes in the 400-500 seats range and approx. 450 airplanes of 500 seats and above)
At the moment only the A380 can carry over 500 passengers (not counting the 747D). Does this mean that Boeing acknowledges the A380 will be succesful?
—-3,900 regional jets
–15,300 single-aisle airplanes
hmmm, the number of regional jets in proportion to single-aisles seems to be rather low. I would expect there to be more RJs.
Also, what happened to regional turboprops? The Dash8 and ATR are not death yet!
there is an observation deck but it seems to be facing the sun. I’d love to go there nonetheless! maybe in, ooh, 60 years?

Good luck, and perhaps till later?
Perhaps it’s a good idea to get another username and start from scratch. Right or wrong, your name does seem to work as a magnet on trolls since they know you are easily aggraveted. Starting out announamously might stop that.
It’s a shame this has had to happen to you…
Great shots! Shame you could not make it to the Kaagbaan. Maybe next time?
How about some recognition of the forums and dare I suggest a wee subs discount for forumites ? π
I hate to bring this up (again), but I do totally agree. In the UK the price may be bareable, but over here the price has gone up to rouhgly 6 pounds (at current exchange rates). And the price seems to be increasing every 3 months!
To make matters worse, where I live it is next to impossible to get the mag. Availabillity seems to be going down here big time, which may or may not be caused by the outrageous price. The nearest store I know of that carries AW is half an hour away by car!
p.s. getting an subscription is for now not an option as I live in a temporary place

Military news? If I want to be kept up to date on wars, I’ll visit the “A vs. B fanboy dump”. Most entertaining war ever.
Three pilots are bragging in a bar.
The first one goes “I’ve got a jet that will do 0-100 in 3 seconds.” The other says, “well that’s nothing, I’ve got a jet that will go to a 100 in 2 seconds”.
Then the last pilot comes in. “Actually, even my wife got something that will go 0-100 in under a second”. The other two pilots ask amazingly “well, what might that be?”. To which the third pilot replies, a scale!
If the A330 is replacing the 767, is it likely that it will operate the one flight a day (or two?) into Heathrow that is currently operated by the 767?
I don’t know. The 330 is rather long legged, so I do not think it may be (as) economical to put the 332 on the LHR route. You might get two 739s instead? The lat 763 will not leave the fleet for quite a while yet so for now nothing will change.

Very nice, is this the first aircraft with the Air France KLM logo on?
Also, these are to replace 767s right?
As far as I know this is indeed the first plane with the new KL/AF logo. And yes the A330s will indeed replace the 767s. The first 767(s?) have already been retired. PH-BZA is now flying for Zoom.
The MD-11s will eventually also be replaced by a mix of A330s and B777s, but that’s not for a few more years.
