I think we can safely say it’s confirmed news. :diablo:

Cool. Was not aware of that.

Embraer are fast coming up on the rails, and will be even more of a force to be reckoned with if and when their joint ventures with the Chinese start to deliver the goods.

Is that/those joint venture an educated guess on your part, or is this confirmed news? I have not heard anything about that.

Whenever I hear talks of joint ventures for Embraer it seems to be with assorted French/European companies. Embraer for a long time was (is?) part owned by a French company, Dassault if I’m not mistaken, so that does explain it.

I didn’t remember seeing that one at the show! 😀

Well, I did stand next to the Embraer stand. You should have been there. You would have seen a lot of Embraers and a stupid women bashing up people for standing in front of their kids.

Used to be Dunsfold, they now have a purpose built facility at Enstone in Oxfordshire, less distance for JC to travel……………..

Probably because his new Ford could not make it to the studio with on tank of gas. Then again, even with gas his car is strugling.

Also on my site are a whole lot (25) of photos from the 787 modells. I got a number of the 787 dreamliner livery, and one photo each for the individual airlines that ordered the planes.

However, no photos are available for Hainan Airlines and Japan Airlines since I messed up those. However, the Hainan logo CAN be found of the Air China plane, which is probably a mistake from Boeing.

Some of the photos on my site ended up somewhat dark.

Could not agree more Ren. Even when they were on the ground, the 340-600 looked far more  BETTER.

    Fully agree with that!

Does anyone know what this one was doing here? Not that I disliked her, it just seemed a bit old in between the 772LR, 380 and 346.

    tenthije,

You could easily sell the Effiel Tower pic to a postcard company!

Thanks! This is the best out of a series of 30odd. The white lights are strobe lights that flash randomly. To get all the white lights a shutter time of 6+ seconds is necessary.

The yellow lights are on all evening/night. On top is a search light rotating like in a lighthouse, but you can not see that in this photo. The search light is only turned on later in the evening so the photo may have been shot prior to that. Not quite sure of that.

More will follow later. Most of the flying stuff ended up unsharp so my shots will be mostly ground based.

This photo could have been a lot better too. A lot of ramp-rats where in the way so I could not get the angle I really wanted. Also, the photo is a tad unsharp because the camera was still focused on the ramp-rats.

Oh well, perhaps I’ll be more lucky at Farn’06. There the photographic possibilities alongside the runway is definately much better!

    Any Historics fly?

The Breitling constellation and the Noratlas. Regrettably I do not have good pictures of either. When the Noratlas was flying I was standing in line to get something to drink. The Constellation I did try to make pictures of but by the looks of it they ended up unsharp. Right now I am sorting the photos out so hopefully one or two can be salvaged.

Thanks, you also seen the Paris photos? I’ve added them a few sec later when I realised I forgot them!

You mind if I add mine in this thread? Will be done sorting in a little over a hour. Otherwise we might get half a dozen threads with LBG shots.

p.s., your shots ended up better then mine. Most of my flying shots are blurry. Only those parked/taxying on the ground where good. 🙁

That’s a shame to hear. I must admit though that I never quite understood this order. They already have a young fleet and their cash reserves are not that impressive.

The order will probably be renegotiated when AC is in a better shape.

This model was displayed at Le Bourget, along with models of every airline to have taken the 787 so far. Consider it a preview of massive thread(s) to come. 😉

I’ll be coming as well. With 8 months leeway the boss better give me a few days of or there will be riots in the street (not that hard to accomplish in the cityblock I live in ;)).

Hopefully we can get things sorted out a bit quicker than we with the Paris Air Show. Sorry I missed you all there! I had already left the 14th so could not read the message you send the 15th. Bloody hotel had not internet.

I never implied the need for any airline to go bust.

I am not saying you said or implied that! All I said is that I feel there may be a massive oversupply of seats to and from the middle east. And since I do not expect any of the Princes of Kings to have the guts to scale back voluntarily I fear that involuntary cutbacks will be going to happen. Either airlines going entirely or getting much smaller.

And I quoted DUS as an example of the kind of destinations that these airlines feed from, so therefore likely possibilities. The airline market is much more contestable than it used to be and indeed I do believe Qatar could enter this market.

Personally I would say that there are other destinations in Europe that could be more lucrative for a ME airline (not necessarily Qatar. Etihad, Emirates etc can do so too). For instance, AMS lacks a pax fligt from any ME airline. KLM has that market pretty much cornered. Only a fey freight services from Emirates and Qatar. In the past Jordanian and Kuwait used to fly here but they gave up.

There are good prime examples of markets similar to DUS which support such services. Take MAN for example, it has 2 Emirates services daily and (when I last looked) 4 flights per week by Qatar, but I am not fooled, I believe that it is capacity shortage which holds Qatar back from expanding at MAN.

I sincerely hope so. I do not want to see any airline go belly up. I really don’t.

You seem to have missed a little of the point with your comment about the 4 carriers in the area taking market share. A lot of the business of Emirates and Qatar is not even to their home nation or the regional market, it is long haul, from one continent to another via their home nation.

Must have missed that indeed. But even then, a transfer hub is only as strong as the the destinations served. In Europe Schiphol is one of the largest transfer points. That is not because KLM serves every destination. All the other airlines offering fligths to destinations help. I am curious to see if all the main hubs in the ME will get services from other nations. Dubai will definately rank high there, but Abu Dhabi? Doha?

As it happens Gulf Air has now started turning in a profit, so you’ll be stuck if you expect that one to go bust too soon.

That’s true, but even then I see a problem in the long term. The owners of Gulf Air used to be very happy with it. Gulf Air was the only estabilished airline in the region. Now each of the owner nations has their own airline. All owners (except Oman) have a huge airline with even larger ambitions. How long will it take for the owners of Gulf Air to decide that Gulf Air takes away to much passengers from their new airlines? That more then anything else will probably be a problem for Gulf Air. As long as profits are made nothing will change. But what will the gulf states do when Gulf Air makes no profit? It will happen sooner or later, rather later if you ask me.

Typically air travel is growing at a rate of around 5% per annum, by 2020 the number of passengers travelling will have DOUBLED, therefore if you’re not sure whether airports can sustain airlines such as Qatar and Emirates then look at what each airport has now from these carriers and AT LEAST double it (long haul routes are growing very fast). Remember these planes will not be delivered tomorrow and have to be put onto routes, they will be delivered through to 2015, by which time air travel will be nearing that doubling.

    Good point.

Your comments have concerned me about people’s understanding of air transport

    Sorry to hear so. 🙁
