Not flown much exotic really. Just BMI (also for my next flight), easyJet, Ryanair, Buzz and VBird. By now maybe Buzz counts as exotic? Perhaps even VBird, with their load factors I must be one of the only people to have flown them! đŸ˜€

G-STRDfor some reason they jumped to G-STRZ with their ex av8 757.
What Transavia does, any maybe Astraeus does the same, is register its own planes from A to B, C and so on. However, the planes that are on temporary lease are registered from Z backwards.
Hence PH-XRA/XRB/XRC is owned, PH-XRZ/XRY are leased.
Choosing registrations varies per coutry. In the Netherlands an airline can choose a registration and as long as it has not been taken up yet it is accepted. Some letters seem to be not available because they can be confused with each other. That’s for instance why there is no PH-BXQ, it would be to easy to consfuse it with PH-BXO.
In other countries you get what you are assigned. In Spain for instance you can not choose a registration. That’s why Iberia has no logical system to recognise the plane by the registration. You can do so with, for instance, KLM where every registration starting with a B is a Boeing, every aircraft with an A was (and will be) an airbus etc.
BTW, I was told that getting a “custom” registration costs you more money in NL than when you are just assigned a registration by the RLD (Dutch aviation authorities). If that is true or not I do not know, but knowing the money suckers they are it probably is. đŸ˜‰
I do not agree with that. For you airplanes are public transport, in Europe it is rail companies and bus companies. In many European countries the rail and bus companies are privatised. Results are very mixed I’ll grant you that, from the ratty UK rail to the rather good Dutch rail.
My local bus and train company, Syntus, is owned by a consortium including Dutch train and bus companies as well as a large French company. In the UK a lot of public transport companies are (part-) owned by French companies.
That’s just passenger transport. When we get round to freight transport things change even further. My logistics teacher once said that in the whole of the (enlarged) EU over 70% of transport is done by Dutch owned companies. These figures are strongest in river-shipping and lorries. It does not seem to worry anyone!
Just as an aside, maybe it is a good idea to post photos in a seperate thread like we normally do when the competition is not going? Otherwise this thread would get very large and slow to load in particular for those on dial-up.
Just imagine having to load 1 months worth of photos from all contestants!
Fabulous pictures as ever Peter. Hate to sound cheeky, but did you get a picture of G-CELB? Cheers mate.
This is it. Not that good a photo really. I have had to increase the brightness quite a bit to make it reasonably good.
The US Air Force do have a lot of aircraft you know, 757’s 747’s 737’s and a few more….
yeah, but to send out 3x 747 and 2x 757 for the visit of one man and his entourage, that’s quite… impressive.
I won’t upload the photos again, they are here
Yesterday 05/06/2004 I got to see these planes (PH- planes left out). The most special one was without doubt the Dornier 228. It has a Dutch registration, but will be flying for an airline in the Gabon. There it will be flying eco-tourists.
I looked up information, and from what I can find there are only 3 pictures of this plane online with this reg and livery. The first one at A.net, the 2nd one here at KEY in my previous thread and the 3rd one is the same photo uploaded later at JP. Its previous identity is D-CALY of KATO Airlines.
Anyway, the planes seen, with in bold the odd ones.

so 2x 747 and 2x 757! And another 747 (E-4B) parked at EIN with communication equipment.
Just to add if you go the Oost. Someone deposited an old pallet near the fence next to the 2nd building at the apron. You can use this as a step ladder, everyone does! There are actually a few places where someone deposited pallets for us to use!
you’ll have great weather too!
50% sun
20% rain
0mm of rain
13-25 degrees celsius

the Kaagbaan will be used for take-offs. That runway is accesible by bus. More details on my website.
I am not sure if it is going to still be there. GA movements are not announced except perhaps for top-level dignitaries like presidents and the like. I don’t think this plane will be carrying anyone like that!
To get there you can take busline 190/191/196/198/199 to Schiphol Oost. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the police air wing. It should be easy enough to find. The bus will drive a Mac Donalds restaurant, and then turn on a main road. You should take the first bus stop on that main road.
At the police apron (Bo-105, MD-902 and islanders in case you where wondering), you walk on a bit and take the first road to the right. If you walk forward you will see the apron already. It is lined with a fence and buildings, but between the buildings there are crash gates that can be used to poke your camera through.
Yesterday the DDA’s Dakota (Martinair livery) was standing outside as well. Also on this apron is KLM B747-300 PH-BUK. It is the last KLM ‘300 still at Schiphol, and will eventually find its way to the Aviodrome museum. The ‘300 has been stripped of some parts though, most noticably the engines.
You won’t be able to see the dornier from the terrace unless you got a pretty decent pair of binoculars. You will be able to see the 743 though from that distance. Other planes that are here are the police wing, the DDA’s planes (often indoors though) and all biz jets. Yesterday there was a Falcon, 2 gulfstreams and a handfull of citations and small props. Sometimes Transavia and Dutchbird park some of their planes there close to the fence when they do not need them.
What was the previous owner of this plane? SAA?
AKIF rings a distant bell in the mind!
Once again, wonderful trip.
It’s a small world! I made my first flight in that one as well, around Duxford.
It seems that Star is becoming bigger and certainly a great deal better than the likes of SkyTeam and oneworld.
In what way are they better? Bigger is not always better. Personally I think that the *A is getting too big to handle properly. Its like the EU, it worked reasonably well when it only had 6 members, but as countries join decission taking takes longer and waste of resources increases.
they ain’t much, but these are my Aer Lingus shots.
