That’s one UGLY airplane. Probably the only plane in the world where a crash would actually improve the looks! 😀

I seen that once, even better then!

When I saw it there where 3 such banks with very light clouds on different lowish altitudes. I saw a BA 757 fly through the top cloud, leaving a distinct 757 shadow on the bottom two. If I had my camera with me that day I would have shot my best shot ever no doubt!

BTW, when on the subject of cross words. Who agrees with me that the oldest continuous airline is not the airline that KEY gives as an answer. The oldest airline is KLM!

Only Emirates I believe fly the A340-500 and Air Canada will finally introduce them soon.

Non-stop range to Sydney is all nice and well, but how many airlines fly to Sydney anyway? That’s not a lot and there are not enough passengers to make flights worthwhile for many airlines. Isn’t the only European airline to go to Australia these days British Airways and Lauda?

Great photos. Especially the NW DC10 is great. I have yet to see that one myself.

As for the spot at the bridge, ACA345 is right with the location.

Getting there by car is pretty straight forward, drive from AMS Plaza towards parking P30. Don’t enter P30 but drive to the end of the road, there you go to the right. Continue on that road and go to the right at the traffic lights.

Follow that road. When you see on your left a fake ski-slope (or football stand or something… haven’t figured out what it is yet 😉 ) you must take the first exit to the right. At the end of the exit go to the right. You will now be on the road running next to the canal. Top speed allowed is 80kph (50mph) but going faster is quite possible . After 5 to 10 minutes driving you will find the taxiway going over the road and canal.

You can either park your car at a nearby Jewish cemetary and spot from the little bridge over the canal (mind the traffic!). Another option is to go into the road running paralel with the taxiway. There you can find a crashgate where your car can be parked in the grass. There is a fence there but the grassgate has large enough gaps to poke your camera through.

Please do not go into the cemetary to spot planes. Some people have done that, and the friends and relatives of the deceased do not like that for obvious reasons.

Getting there by bus is possible, but that will take a while. I have not tried it by am guessing an hour at least when starting at AMS Plaza. In any case, I forgot the bus number so next time I am there I will have to look it up.

The 762 is not offered actively, but if an airline wants to buy them Boeing will make them. Productionwise there is barely a difference between a 762 and a 763, just a few plugs more or less.

Wasn’t the tanker plane offered to the USAF also based on the 762?

Does it also work in the airline business?

It works like that in every industry and for all assets. Be it airplanes, cars or buildings. A lot can be told about this subject, if you want to know more about it just ask me next time you speak to me on MSN.

Well, 200 by the end of the year? That’s a lot of planes to sell in a depressed market of a plane of which the first sheet of metal has yet to be cut. Seems a tad optimistic. Then again, the Embraer 190 is also selling by the dozen so who knows.

IFE on A320s is not impossible. I got a brochure of VBird in which it states that they will introduce fleet-wide IFE by februari 2004. Not that I noticed it during my two trips in march, but that’s another matter. They do show a picture of a cabin with IFE in each seat.

Well, backlit photos often tend the be too dark to be really good photos. Most websites will make an exception for rare planes, but a LH ARJ is by no means rare. Personally I quite like the photo, in particular the contrails add to the photo. However, it is up to the webmaster to decide if it qualifies or not. Let’s face it, it is his/her website and his/her webspace and bandwidth you are using.

it’s a shame the SAA 744 will only be the 23rd, as i’ll be coming the 24th. Oh well, I’ll see them at LHR.

Not just that. Fly Air has 2 or 3 A300s in that livery. All of them bought from JAS that have used the former Airbus livery until they where taken over by JAL.

I read that the police noticed cracks in the roof and that therefore they had evacuated that part of the terminal just before the collapse. That might explain why “only” 6 where killed, 3 of which police officers.

    http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040523/ts_afp/france_air_accident_040523111911
Several police officers, who had spotted a crack appearing in the roof and were trying to cordon off the area, were wounded by flying shards of glass.
