A bit further from that bridge there is this spot. The entire taxiway is surrounded by fences, but there is one crashgate with gaps wide enough to poke a camera through. The planes are very close though, so a full side-on shot of a 747 is not possible! Also there are some signs (no acces/danger aircraft etc) that can hinder photography.
Since I now got a car, I am able to explore the airport vicinity somewhat better. I found this rather nice place. This is the taxiway linking the new Polderbaan with Schiphol.
On behalf of many Dutch spotters I’d like to thank the British tax payers for sending over these 5 helicopters! 😀
the Brussels airline that had the comedian was JetAir
it works, looks great!
That’s a duck beating the speed limit by 14 kilometres (10mph)! He/she/it got caught by the ever vigilant GATSO machine.

Were those prices around the times I specified, Peter?
yes, sorry! The inbound leg is expensive but bareable at around 200 euros (23th of July as requested). The outbound leg for anything between the 18th and 26th of august (or thereabouts) goes over the 1000 euros.
Only KLM and Olympic.
OA uses the 734 and KLM uses the 738 but will use the 744 during the olympics!
OA 419.60 euro
KL 1,288.62 euro
seems a bit excessive to me!
Easyjet from Berlin Schöneveld (SXF) to Athens (ATH) still has low priced flights. 60 euros one-way. With the olympics in mind I would not expect flights to get much cheaper than that!
Ryanair 2 times a return flight between STN and Eindhoven. All 4 flights where delayed. Twice by half an hour, once by 2 hours and once by 3 hours. No explanation or apology.
[b]but I wondered if I am likely to find this maximum focal length too restrictive for typical airliner photography[b]
That depends very much on where you normally shoot. My camera goes ” only” to 200mm optical zoom, and where I spot that is sufficient. I spot at AMS, DUS and in the last year spend a lot of time at LHR. At all these airports it is possible to get close to the runway and/or final approach. A large zoom is not required there.
At other airports a longer zoom is required because of buildings/fences/security obstructing views to and near the runway. You will just have to go to your favourite airport(s) and see if it will suffice or not. Maybe you can aks other spotters in the area?
Fact of the matter is, for aviation photography you can never go wrong with a decent DSLR. But they are also less compatible with your mountainclimbing. Having said that, the difference between a DSLR and a high-quality point-and-shoot falling on the rocks is negligable. Both will be damaged substantially.
Many camera’s, both DSLR and compacts, have special cases for added protection against falling. You will have to buy them seperately. While in the store it may also be advisable to talk to the shop keeper about special insurance for your camera.
I’d be very surprised if you really needed 8MP. That would be large enough for huge A1 photos (2 broadsheet paper pages)! That’s a matter of opinion I suppose. Just stay away from digital zoom!

Sounds interesting. There is also a bit of news regarding Virgin USA. They are to use up to 35 A320s or B737NG’s, discussions with Airbus and Boeing are starting next week. This won’t be the only plane type. Virgin is talking with Bombardier and Embraer about 20 regional jets.
The Chief Executieve of the new, still unnamed, USA brand will be Frederick Reid.
The airline is expected to start early next year, but Reid said they might start sooner.
Reid also said the Virgin Group was in talks with an unnamed U.S. airline about acquiring some slots in the United States and could be interested in some assets of U.S. Airways.
“If something happened there (with U.S. Airways) we might well find they become partners instead of us having equity partners. There also might be some equity partners but they (U.S. Airways) would become a major shareholder in the company,” he said.
my apologies!
What I read at a.net is that the name will be the same for all divissions. So more LANchile, LANperu, LAN*****. They said that the “new” name is to be LAN, short for Latin American Network. Quite smart if you ask me!
I like this livery a lot more than the current. I never liked the old livery.
Chips Belgian style with loads of salt. No mayo please!
I don’t really like the fatty English chips. Not to mention that horrible vinegar you put over it! That stuff is probably the only reason why the English cuisine is frowned at worldwide (not that the Dutch cuisine is any better mind you), cause the rest of the stuff I ate in London was really good. Even the full breakfast was easier to digest than I thought it would.
