damage looks quite severe, but credit tot he 747 for staying in one piece with only buckeling of fuselage panels…
Perhaps it would have cracked in two pieces had there not been the jacks (but then, had there been no jacks there would not have been a problem to start with :D). That’s hard to tell from this photo. That the damage is quite severe is obvious, it wouldn’t be a write off otherwise.
Will LH now get a new freigther? Or do they still have some parked in the dessert?
By the way, let’s open a caption competition. My entry (because of the fuselage labels):

one thing i am wondering though, the landing gear is it in the fuselage (ATR style) or by the engines (F50 style). It might also be an An32.
Transall?
the tail seems a bit small, in particular on the Thai
I did not say every month . I sad every other year! π
As for the current operation. Air Holland as a company is no more. They have been taken over by the Exel Aviation Group. This is the same organization that runs, amongst others: KLMexel, BONAIRexel, ARUBAexel etc. Soon BELGIUMexel will start and they are looking at starting a Spanish branch.
The personnel and most (all?) of the planes have been transferred to the Exel Aviation group. They will dispose of the Air Holland brand and estabilish HOLLANDexel. HOLLANDexel is to get all of Air Hollands B767s except for two. They will be transferred to BELGIUMexel. Rumours are that there will also be two B737s joining HOLLANDexel.
I am not sure what will happen with the B757s. Last I heard is that the AOC of the exel group does not include the B757 but does include the B767. That seems a bit odd as they both have largely the same type rating, so we will just have to see what is happening with them.
Both HOLLANDexel and BELGIUMexel will be flying to the Dutch Carribean from Amsterdam and Brussels respectively. Expect the planes to be painted in the same livery as the other planes of the Exel Aviation group.
i’ll remember that!
there is not a single plane type i’d rule out straight away. But i do want it to look airworthy. Properly maintained and everything. Some of the aircraft from african and asian airlines don’t look too safe and i’d probably not fly them where i given the opportunity.

nah, can’t be! Great photo and a great achievement, the 4000 posts. Is that the most of anyone around here? Must be close to the top!
my previous source was not DSML but a.net!
Anyway, check the press release by Swiss:

…the onboard warning system (TCAS, traffic alert and collision avoidance system) indicated the proximity of another aircraft. The SWISS crew followed the systemβs instructions and put distance between the two aircraft….
case closed! π
of course you should make a big deal out of it! It is a big thing! Congratulations!

that’s what I mean! After all, with the speed alliances are growing, soon we will need a full page per flight to list every code of every alliancemember. π Some KLM flights already have 4 or 5 codes assigned by partners.
According to the Dutch Spotters Mailing List it was the TCAS instructing the KLM pilot to take evasive actions.
