Also the first time I have seen the “bump stop” ??? back end undercarriage leg ??? on the IL62M ?? I know there is a man here who can enlighten me ??
Those are a standard feature. With all the engines in the back the IL62 is very tail-heavy. To prevent it flipping over it has the stand.
This stand is integral to the plane. During landing/take-off it is used to avoid tailstrikes, similar for instance to the skids used by Boeing, or the small tailwheel on the Saab Draken fighter. Once stationary the thing is extended for support.
You’ll find that a lot of cargo planes use stands as well. The IL-76 and CASA-235 for intance also have them build-in. Most of the times the stands are not build-in though. The cargo 747 has a mobile stand and any airport it frequents should have at least one.
Curtains in the wheels? Corr
Ooh come on, that’s a classic quote. Don’t tell me you don’t know what I am talking about!
Oh, it’s a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.
Coooool! Especially the Beachcraft Starship! Never seen one of those myself, not even in a museum.
Never seen that last one before either. I take it this one never went beyond prototype/mock-up status?
Oprah is not welcome in Australia if Australian Tax Payers have to pay the bill
They should just take the tax bill and deduct it as a tourist-promotion or something. Featuring on Oprah is the best promotion a country can have. Just check the book-sales. The one that sells most is the one that Oprah plugged the day before.
Operated by the Russian Air Force. The registration still vaguely shows the CC from CCCP before its current RA registration.
The last arrival, for us anyway, for that day. Nice light.
Shouldn’t the manufacturer honour your cost if it is a problem with the lens?
Yes, they should, but (you had to know there would be a but) there is a grey area here. The lense was designed to work with the Sony’s known at the time of the lense’ creation. Hence, with the Minolta motors. After the lense was released it appears Sony amended their product. Sigma can´t help that their old equipment does not 100% match the new equipment. That´s always the problem with buying non-OEM equipment. It can even happen with OEM equipment, for instance Canon with their EF vs EF-S fitting.
The real questions are:
1) did Sigma know about the problem
2) did Sigma inform the retailers
3) did the retailer inform the buyer
From a purely legal point of view you’d be better of trying to go for the retailer, but ONLY if you are able to proof they could reasonably have known about it, and only if you can proof that they did not tell you about the problem. Problems like this are a good reason to pay a bit more at a professional photo-store instead of the bargain at Dixons and similar box stores. The people at Dixons are more likely to lack this kind of specific information.
I disagree with agreeing with you! 😀
This is exactly what I do. You have a spare body in case one dies but it’s also much more convenient having two different lenses available to use at the same time. Not changing lenses all the time helps minimise the amount of dust getting in your mirror box too!
Paul
Indeed. Having just come back from a holiday in Russia I can confirm that very much. I only have one camera (that pesky budget). I was constantly changing between my wide-angle, my medium zoom and my big zoom. The camera will need a good cleaning now.
Another option would be a single lense that covers the whole spectrum. I noticed several people using the Canon 28-300L. That would suit a spotter quite well from ramp-access wide-angle shots to final approach zoom shots.
Nice. Thx.
The good thing about Vnukovo is it has the best autobahn connection and the least amount of travellers …
That I noticed! We spend a full day in the final approach standing next to the sliproad onto the M3 (westbound). During that day we may have seen 20 cars driving past, half of them service vehicles.
In fact, it was not even a problem to cross the sliproad as a pedestrian! We did that near the police box.
I apologise in advance if there is an obvious answer or its a silly question, but why are the Manchesters runways given the designations they have ie 23L etc etc :o:o:o
All runways have the number as the first two digits of their heading. In the case of Manchester the runway is headed 236 degrees. The letter indicates which specific runway in case there are more runways with the same heading. L for left, R for right, C for center. Not sure what airports with more then 3 runways with the same heading do.
Here are the photos of the remote storage dump.
Anyone know why there is a fairing on the rear fuselage?
Same company but without the fairing.
it must have been an amazing trip
Absolutely! It was a great trip! And so far you’ve only seen half of my catch!
Peter, Thanks for these great images. Really good to see that immaculate IL62 (not that I’m biased). They really don’t make them like that anymore…..:(
It’s gonna get better as well. A day later I was in the final approach, and saw a Rossiya IL62 in the final approach. It did two approaches actually, must have been a training flight.
Those shots will follow in a day or two. First I am gonna do the Domodedovo air-side photos (lot’s of stored Ilyushins). Then two threads for Vnukovo landside and Domodedovo landside.
Great shots, I love the TU-134 Glazed noses, any scrap yards out there?
Not at Sheremetyevo.
There are a few (to be) scrapped planes at the VARZ-400 maintenance area at Vnukovo which I posted in a seperate thread. There are also a lot of dumped planes, mostly Ilyushins, at Domodedovo. Those will follow in the next few days.
The next two photos where taken from the VARZ-400 maintenance area. The planes where parked on the biz-jet area, but we had no access there.
And the pictures from VARZ-400:
This is not the Alrosa that crashed a few days ago. I got the crashed Alrosa earlier that day at Domodedovo.
Nice photos! I am really wondering where you shot them. The first few, on the Zwanenburgbaan, what spot where you? I am familiar with a spot on the final approach, but not touch-down shots.
Looking at Google Maps I believe you where at the end of the Koetsiersstraat, the street running paralel to Tweeduizend El? I thought that place had been fenced of, has it been opened again?
You did not go to Sail then? I went to Sail, but did not make photos.
