No, your not the only one.

It was down yesterday afternoon and evening (CET). Johan said they were having some server problems. The problem was being taken care of, but would persist for a few more days to come. Today it was up in the morning and early afternoon. now it is down again, as you probably already noticed.

It is starting to look like the livery in this thread will be the new JAT livery. If so, it wins the contest easily!

Will they really be adopting these colours? Air France is more colourfull! Surely this is the name “colour scheme” not worthy? My little brother could have thought of something like this. Just keep the old livery!

I believe I may have seen the same program at Belgian TV station Canvas (one of the public Dutch language TV stations). It was shown at “Terzake”, a Newsnight-like program.

Quite a few interesting points where raised:

    * The plane was 6 tons overweight considering the wind (tailwind) and the runway length. There was too much luggage as well as fuel.
    * The captain was not informed of a last minute change in luggage. Originally a lot of luggage was to go on another flight (747). In the end a few 100 kilo’s worth had to be put on the Concorde still. Therefore the captain was not aware the center of gravity was further back.
    * On one of the main gear bogeys a spacer was removed for maintenance, but not placed back. This spacer has to keep the wheels fixed, otherwise they slide over the axle (like a marble on a abbacus).
    * The captain took to the air to early. He had not enough speed yet, some 20mph short. The reason he (probably) did this was because he had difficulty keeping the plane on the runway. Because of the missing spacer the tires where going all over the place making it hard to make a straight run. The skid marks collaborate with this story.
    * The crew where in a hurry since the flight was already delayed.
    * The French investagion autorities, the BEA, made a bad report. Both the BEA and Air France are owned by the French state. Therefore the BEA did apparently not want to admit that AF made mistakes.

This program was made by Peter Bardehle for ZDF (German public TV station)

You know the best part about that DBA story:

The guy who has supposed to buy the airline did not have the money! He had to borrow 1 euro from one of the people present at the ceremony!

Sorry I couldn’t help, do you happen to have a picture. I’d be most interested to see it.

One thing did cross my mind, could it have been a “registration of convenience”, a temporary registration? Are/were there leasing companies in Belgium owning (but not necessarily operating) DC-8’s?

I’ve gone through two or three DC-8 production lists, but I can not find any DC-8 with a Belgian restration. Are you quite sure the plane you are looking for is a DC-8? Or perhaps you wrongly typed the registration?

Only thing I found for OO-HPA is:
    OO-HPA SIAI MARCHETTI FN.333 RIVIERA (NARDI) 0103

Maybe a silly question, but where is the beach? On all the SXM pictures you see this nice beach where the planes fly over for final approach, but I can’t see it! Or is that teeny-weeny strip of yellow on the bottom that famous beach? That looks like it is smaller than a cats litter box (well, almost then)!

A few years back we went for sports-class to a local lake to go swimming. The water was beautiful, the weather even better so we wanted to stay. Unfortunately we still had 4 hours of class back at school, 2 hours biology and 2 hours of religious class. Therefore we decided that those hours could be missed.
We called our teachers asking if we could have the rest of the day of, since we were having an “extended sports class”. The teachers, assuming the sports teacher was there, agreed. The sports teacher had already left though, since our class was his last hour. We had a great time, but two people decided to go home since they could not swim.
So the principal of the school saw them when they collected their books to go home. He inquired what they were doing out of class. He did not like the story AT ALL. He treatened to give us detention for a week.
Fortunately it was one of the last days of the school year so we got away with it! 😎 😀

Doing my placement abroad in England (Bexleyheath/Erith, roughly 30km east of London). Had a great time but I did wonder when I had to hand in my thesis and when I had to come back home. So I called my teacher, his reaction: “ARE YOU STILL THERE!?!?!” 😮

Almost graduated but I had to do one resit, again. I had done this exam 4 times already. (operations research, kind of a cross between math and statistics and VERY difficult) The teacher therefore proposed that I would do a replacing assignment instead of an exam. I was all too happy to take the offer.
I got the assignment and it was EASY. My little brother probably could have done so if he had more patience (reading longwinded books is not his strength).
In the end I passed this “exam” with an 8 (max = 10). The highest mark on my graduation list is, you guessed it… operations research. My worst subject has the highest mark!
You just have to love the Dutch eduaction system sometimes! 😀

I too had an English teacher that was kind a useless. The only thing English about her was her upity accent. You probably know the accent I mean, whatever she said it always sounded like she was the smartest and you were the thickest person on earth.
She was very bad at explaining English, so during class I would sometimes explain the subject to some of my fellow students that were less gifted at English. You’d think the b*tch would be happy with some help, but nooo. She made clear she did not appreciate it and that she could handle it. I responded by repeating her sentence without her grammar and pronunciation error.
That term was the first in 5 year my mark was lower than a 8. I only got a 6. Of course the teacher was quick to remind me that it had nothing to do with her not liking me! Somehow, I was not convinced! 😡

One year with French class we had a wimp (nice guy though, quite funny). He really could not keep control.
The class decided that at the last day we would be making “croque monsieurs” (toast with molten cheese and ham, supposedly a French meal). Two students brought a lump of bread each, two students had the cheese, two had ham, one had the toaster machine, one an extension cord for the electricity, one had cutlery, another had plates, we had everything we needed.
The teacher was not happy with it but we managed to bribe him. He got the first “croque monsieur”. Needless to say there was not a lot of teaching that day. 😀 😎 😉

Another teacher, but still French class. You may recall that a few years ago France was testing nuclear bombs on Mururoa (sp?). Of course our class did not accept that, but who are we to stop France?
Since we had no chance stopping France, we decided to stop French! We just boycotted the teacher! We even made the local news paper!” 😎

Chemistry “accident”. We had electric plugs on the benches on which to plug heaters, lamps etc. Someone (NOT ME) wanted to know what would happen if they short-circuited. He placed a metal pen on it connecting the two plugs. The sparks got higher than I expected. Four years on the plugs still do not work.

Computer networks, need I say more? 😀

Why put them in museums? They are hardly significant airframes.

They may not be significiant, they are odd and good looking. Only 50 or so were ever build. Over the years so many odd types have already disappeared forever,. It would be a shame if even these days some very odd types were to disappear.

What is going to happen with the other 10. If Raytheon scraps the 40 they own, am I right to assume that they will no longer support the 10 still flying? If so, how will they be maintained. Will they be maintained?

I propose the Aviodrome! Brand new so I guess they may still have some room to spare! (surely you build a new museum with growth in mind! 😀 )

Dont forget they are aviation pioneers they know what to do in crises

Fokker probably thought the same! Having a nice history means nothing.

I do not think Boeing will leave the commercial market, but there will be fewer products. The 757 and to a lesser extent the 767 are on their way out, at least for commercial operaters (thoughy they will still be interesting for the military, in particular the 767).

The 717 is still a long shot. If the Star Alliance indeed orders the 717 I think this program will be safe, otherwise there may be a problem.

The 737 is going quite nicely. The 747 will probably also remain for the foreseeable future, maybe upgraded. This is still the freighter of choise.

The 777 is going very nice as well, no doubt it is here to stay for quite a while to come.

The 7E7 (or whatever it will be called) will cater for a large market. Both replacement of old planes and likely new planes. I expect it to be succesful. We’ll have to see…
