Years ago Fokker pitched a modified F28 to the US Navy for their COD mission. So how about a few 2nd hand converted F28s or F70s.

I’ve done quite some air-to-ground photography in the past. My best results were obtained in flying in a high-wing aircraft like a Cessna 172, which also has the advantage that a window can be opened (but don’t drop your camera!). The weather conditions are very important. A very clear and sunny day is necessary for best results and also be aware of the position of the sun. Shooting against the light will diminish contrast. I would also advise to put the exposure on manual. A typical exposure for air-to-ground shots in good (sunny) conditions would be 1/500sec at f/8 at 100 ISO. Don’t use shutterspeeds longer than 1/500 to avoid unsharpness because of airframe vibrations.

A few older examples (on film):

However, be advised that in the Netherlands it is illegal to make air-to-ground photographs from aircraft except airliners, unless a special permit has been obtained. It seems to be ridiculous in this time and age, but an old law (1959) is still in force. See http://wetten.overheid.nl/BWBR0002327/geldigheidsdatum_14-04-2009 (in Dutch).

    Thanks for the tips!

As for the legality, I am on one of the organised flights of the Dutch Spotters Convention. There will be 4 or 5 flights with a GA Airvan operated by Kammair. It has a high wing, and Kammair’s license allows for aerial photography. Don’t know if the windows can open or indeed if they will even allow it.

As for shooting with the sun in the back, well, there will be more passengers on the flight so everyone will want to have the best seat. However, since we will circle over the airport everyone should have at least some chances at a good shot.

Fingers crossed for good weather. Does not look favourable now having just checked the KNMI. 😡

    Total support of Grey Area!

I simply CANNOT believe the amount of people on here that are SUPPORTING a 100% increase in a Service. Is this the result of the offsprings of Thatchers Britain? Probably!

I wonder what would have happened had the price been increased by 5p or 10p. I am willing to bet that many would be up in arms over having such an awkward price requiring the AVP (and it’s visitors) to stockpile on small change money. Considering the low price the AVP was charging they where between a rock and a hard place.

Now don’t get me wrong, a 100% increase is a lot. But get some perspective already! It´s a single pound! It´s a bit under a the price of a litre of diesel; a bit over the weekday’s Times edition, but “considerably” lower then the saturday Times edition; it’s two/thirds the price of a small Starbucks cup of whatever it is they call Espresso.

They just opened a new shelter for the Concorde! Was I the only one that expected the price to increase as a result?

Having ranted that, I agree with the comment made that the AVP should have announced the price hike in advance. Just changing it overnight without advance warning is very sloppy.

Yes, we did a few Airshows that year, culminating with the Biggen Hill Air Fair. It was great fun and I wish we could do some more…..

Will DHL also do a few airshows outside the UK? I am hoping for the RNLAF’s show at Volkel this year.

BTW, you sound like you are with DHL. Which division are you at? I’m with DHL Exel Automotive myself. And also welcome on this forum!

Some of you may be interested to learn that the entry charges in the Manchester Viewing Park have gone up.

It’s now £2 for pedestrians and car passengers – yes, folks, that’s a 100% increase.

Cars are now £5 including driver.

It cost £9 for three of us in a car to get in there this morning.

If I told you what I really think of this, then I’d have to moderate myself! 😮

In all honesty, that’s still not too bad considering the price you have to pay to park at the airport (what’s it now, a pound per 15 mins?). And there is an excellent alternative at the mounds which is arguably a better spot anyway.

Does the AVP offer reduced-rate subscriptions for the more serious spotters?

My point is that London is not the only big city with a rather central, but short, airport in the harbour.

Why is LCY certification so much talked about? Seeing how SDU and YTZ are shorter?

Of course, having fewer obstacles on the approaches might, or might not allow planes to take bigger useful load at SDU than at LCY.

Probably because LCY is, at least for its size, an important and high profile airport. SDU and YTZ most definately are not.

I always though the B767 looked ugly. Now with these oversized surfboards glued to their wingtips they look ugly and ridiculous at the same time!

Am surprised this was not patented earlier. The way I read this the concept is roughly similar to the area-ruling concept as used on fighters. For instance the Mirage’s fuselage having a Coke bottle shape between the cockpit and the tail.

Tenthje, thanks for that info – I should see some after all. Arrive mid evening from Southampton today and leave Sunday evening – Hope the weather stays good.

The saturday is not looking particularly well, the sunday is however. For what it’s worth, Frankfurt is expected to have pretty good weather on saturday so you might want to try your look with the train to FRA.

    edit: *you’ve got a PM*

Not that impressed. It’s better then the Star Alliance livery, but that’s hardly a challenge. The JAL Logojet is still my benchmark for Alliance liveries. As is the KLM Flying Blue livery from a few years back.

Am off to Dusseldorf tomorrow and was hoping to see some of those – not so sure if they will be parked there or elsewhere.

According to a post at the German language http://www.dusforum.de there are seven A320s stored at Düsseldorf. That post was made 31MAR so I would not think much has changed. Don’t know where they are parked at the airport, but they should at least be visible if not photographable.

Weather tomorrow will be fantastic. Expect wind from the SE so the terminal platform will be best. Don’t bother with the railway station unless there is something interesting parked next to it (like, say, 7 Blue Wings A320s). From the station the planes will be too high up in their climb to get nice pictures.

Is it possible this was an april fools prank? For instance, in the northern provinces here it is common for people to “steal” things, and return them a day later. Usually it’s small stuff like letterboxes, but some of the more interesting pranks of the last few years include a gold plated rooster from the top of a churchtower and a large sailing yacht!

Hopefully you caught our Mustang G-LEAI today, in from Farnborough and out to London City around midday.

Sorry, did not see it. I went spotting elsewhere on sunday.

I was just about to say how awful I thought the colour scheme was!

I quite like it, but the red titles are extremely hard to edit. If they would change that to another colour (darker blue?) and remove the fading tail colours it would be perfect.

( THE TWO GUYS AT THE VAN WOULD’NT WORK FOR WIZZ AIR BY ANY CHANCE).

I’ll tell the military police you said hello. Good luck getting into the country on your next visit. 😀
