To be honest, the photos seem a bit unsharp. Not sure if that is compression, heathaze or other factors. Does your camera have a lense calibration feature? I had my lenses calibrated and it made a lot of difference.

The TAM and Iberia 330 are nice catches. Are both of those regulars or replacements for regular 777 (TAM) and A320 (IB) services?

So what do these security changes mean for the spotter wanting to causally walk around the piers which has always been a nice way to kill a few hours interlining at AMS?

If the same setup will be used as already in use at the Schengen-piers, then at least it will remain the same but probably a bit easier still as there will presumably no longer be individual areas per gate for screening purposes. Although I would suspect flights with a higher risk for terrorism (e.g. El Al) or drug trafficking (e.g. Surinam Airways) will keep special treatment.

Confirmed Ethiopian 787, there’s footage of the Dreamliner surrounded by fire engines and bathing in foam at SkyNews.

    Here we go again…

What impact will this accident have financially on the airline?

    Boeing 777 $300 million
200 passengers at 1million per law suit. £500 million.
Damage to airport and other sundry costs £2-3 million.

    Gotta hurt.

    Having insurance, priceless.

I went to DUS AS well, but most my photos failed dus to bad settings (I’d done indoor shooting of dance event). By the time I found out and corrected the settings the shots got killed by heathaze. C’est la vie.

did you also go to Muenchengladbach? i saw two Dutch spotters there as well.

Damn! How large is that ladder of yours?! I’ve got a five step ladder and was unable to get proper shots of the TNT ramp, except for the narrow bit alongside the parking lot were (it lookgs like) you took the landing shots from.

Good to know, that over the seven flights, the pre flight crew/engineers walk rounds had been so ‘thorough’ Shades of BA and the engine cowl fiasco recently.

Something like this is next to impossible to see on a pre-flight runaround. Remember that the landing gear doors are closed when on the ground. If there is not a clear trickle of blood or guts running past the landing gear strut you would not be able to see it.

At one time there was a rumour that the Aviodrome museum might be interested in one of the Oostende DC-8s. Probably not this specific one as they where mostly interested in the shorter version of the DC-8. Last time I was at Oostende, a bit over 2 years ago, there where three DC-8s. Only one of them had a short body, 9G-BAN. I am not sure if there are any left at Oostende. I believe that at least one of them had been scrapped earlier. So that leaves one as a maybe.

The short body DC-8 that was at Oostende two years ago.

    Dutch source:
    http://nos.nl/artikel/504517-verdachten-roof-zaventem-gepakt.html

Police have arrested several people for suspected involvement with the diamond robbery at Zaventem, Brussels.

In Belgium 24 people were arrested, in Switzerland six people were arrested and one person was arrested in France. The Belgian justice department has requested France for extradition. It is believed the Frenchman is the mastermind behind the robbery.

Belgian police performance searches at 40 locations in Belgium, mostly in Brussels. Large amounts of money were found. Part of the loot, rough cut diamonds, was retrieved in Switzerland.

The justice department did not say if they had been in contact with their Dutch colleagues. The last few months a few Brink’s trucks were also targeted in the Netherlands.

The perfect place for the third runway is where the hotels and car parks north of the current runway.

No, that location will not work. For flight safety you need a certain amount of distance between the runways. I don’t know the legal limit, but take AMS as an example. The new Polderbaan lies a bit short of 2 KM from the older Zwanenburgbaan. Even at that distance there have been a few cases where planes got closer then safe limits. In particular during bad crosswinds when a strong gust can blow a (smaller) plane into the direction of the path of a larger plane, and also when landing when two planes approach head on before turning left / right onto their respective runways.

There are examples where runways are close by. For instance LGW or FRA. But for those airports it only works during staggered operations. One plane lands on runway left, the other on runway right, the next on left and so on. That will give a little added capacity, but considering the amount of money spend for a new runway the gains would be negligable.

One option that does not often get mentioned is moving one or more of the water reservoirs southwest of Heathrow and placing the runway there. I know the tabloids are going to have a field day, but having the runway start at the current location of the British disabled water ski association would disrupt few people as the airways could lead over Old Windsor Wood and South Forest.

Considering the amount of investigations and reports published thus far on airport expansion in the Southest, is it fair to say more trees have been cut for the paper the reports are printed on then would have been cut for a third runway at Heathrow? Or do we need another report to hit “break even”?

Russia should be less than impressed with their Best Friends behaviour….

Syria is in a civil war at the moment. It might as well have been the rebels taking a shot at something they saw flying over, not knowing if their target was military or civilian, Syrian or foreign.

If turboprops are ruled out, not much is left. How about the An-2? May not look flash but it gets the job done.
