Are all flights by Continental, Delta and Northwest being switched eventually from Gatwick to Heathrow or just a selected few?
If they’re all coming over, where will each get the required slots to get in there?
Just a question that popped into my head today while reading up on T5 and further Airlines expected at LHR.
Thanks for any info on this.
I know NWA will get their slots from KLM. KLM has freed a lot of slots by moving the RTM and EIN flights to LCY. I think enough for 3 to 5 daily flights depending on the day of the week. If these flights will actually replace or augment the LGW flights I do not know.
For Delta I would assume they had some slots transferred from Air France.
Nice photos!
Finally… out of curiosity, anyone know whose lump this is overflying LHR?:
Final bit follows……………
Surinam Airways PZ-TCM B747-306M flying Paramaribo – Amsterdam.
which landed on schedule at 16.00 (local),
You can always count on Ryanair to put a positive spin on everything. 😀
A lot of the large “airport hotel” chains do offer courtsey cards. Think for instance of NH Hotel or Best Western. So I would assume there is a group of “frequest sleepers” if you will.
What is a better plane: Il-96 or A340?
Which has a bigger orderbook: A340-300 or Il-96-400?
Can A340 be described as a French copy of Il-96?
Is this an attempt at trolling?
Hmmm. Summary execution for political dissent and peaceful (though downright stupid) protest?
Good job we’re the good guys, isn’t it?
The guy ran with a backpack towards a Emirates plane (allegedly). The backpack alone could have been reason to shoot first, ask questions later. Chances are the backpack only has a few cans of spraypaint and red bull (red bull gives you wiiiiiings), but chances are also there is a bomb in there. Those security checks to get airside are not just to catch those dangerous little bottles of water you know.
LOL… 😮 – thats a good 30 hours at least!! – Get them on the Ferry….
Rick
In all honesty though, that really ain’t that much longer then taxiing from the Polderbaan to the D-pier.
I bit more seriously, probably weather related? If I am right the weather in the UK is not that favourable. It is windy here as well! As for the busses, the passengers will probably be bussed to the nearest airport that does have a service.
Nice photos, but a word of advice. Do not overdo the saturation-adjustments, colour-adjustmants and contrast-adjustments.
I suspect the saturation adjustments have caused the first Easyjet plane to change from bright orange to OMG-I-am-blind neon orange. There is also a noticable halo effect. In particular at the first three photos. This is caused by excessive contrast adjustments.
The 2nd Air Southwest (with the garage in the backgound) and the first Air France ATR are your best shots.
Is the maximum possible aircraft length limited more by materials/aeronautical engineering considerations or simple practicalities like the need to taxi around airport tarmacs?
Technically a plane can be made as large as you want. Of course a massive plane also requires a massive runway and massive space at the gate.
It has been agreed upon by international comittee (IATA or ICAO, I think the latter) that any plane will have to fit within a 80 x 80 meter box. Airports have been designed with that in mind.

so it was already guessed. Anyway, who can fill in the question mark?
Very nice, shame I did not hear about this in advance cause I would have liked going there. Will they do this more often? Maybe make this an annual public relations excercise?
The web site is being updated

So Rekkof is not dead yet? After KLM Cityhopper selected the E190 last year people, including “insiders” at A.net, mentioned that Rekkof would stop.
Anyway another option, how about on the wings but without pylons as with the DH119 and DH120 proposals and with Concorde?
The windflow from the fuselage/wings into the engines will be too turbulent. That’s why there is (almost) always a small distance between the engine inlet and the plane. Even on fighters you will find this.
I would not say monopoly, although they are getting very big. However, Air Comet is still around and seems to be growing rapidly with some well financed backers.
Do any airports have ‘fake bomb’ detectors installed ?
The show will be broadcast this sunday, so I can only go based on what the has been leaked to the press to stir up the story.
Basically the person was not checked at all. He could enter airside showing just the pass of his friend. He did not look like this friend at all, so obviously the photo identification does not work. By the reporters estimate only about (from top of mind) 20% of employees are checked at any one time. Contents of bags are not searched (this I do not believe myself, but that’s the claim).
Schiphol Group already had additional machines oo order to check people. For instance X-rays, retina-scanners (like the machines used for the frequent flyers signed up to Privium) and the like. These are due to be delivered mid 2008. So investments have been made, it’s just that it takes time to get the machines. Although that is of course that is no excuse for sloppy security. It is not known if more such machines will be acquired following this reporter’s findings.
Till the machines have been delivered and are working additional checks will be made by the Koninklijke Marechaussee (military police) effective immediately.
