They where (are) moving servers. This was announced a few days ago. They did mention the forums would remain online, but it is only occaisionally. Earlier today the forum worked for a few mins, now it is gone again.

Don’t know how much longer it will take. As Manc’s txt mentioned “sh!ts hit the fan at JP” I would hazard a guess and say it will take a tad longer then expected.

I’d also check which body your lenses will fit on, and go for that. The investment will be big enough without having to resort to buying new glass as well.

If money is not a issue, I would go for the D30 over the 300D/350D. The 300D and its successor the 350D are really entry level cameras. They do their work very well, and they do everything you and I as “prosumer” (whoever makes up these terms?) need. However, the D30 is a bit heaver, bit larger and better (stronger) build quality. They lie in your hand more pleasantly and more stable. When shooting with long lenses this is a large bonus. Not to mention that I absolutely love the “wheel” on my camera (an older 10D), and find the buttons on my dad 350D to be flimsy and not as fast to use. if you don’t know what I am on about, check any photo of a 10D/D20/D30 from the back and you’ll know.

The D30 is the succesor of my 10D. The D20 is the generation in between. You might be able to strike a good deal on a 2nd hand D20, or perhaps old stock from a store?

Dusseldorf has been a regular going to for Eelde spotters, only 2 hours drive (Autobahn :diablo: ). Left at 07.00 was there a little after 09.00.

Just checked routenet. Eelde-DUS is officially almost 3 hours (Where the heck did I come with 5 hours? Brainfart or something). Routenet recommends driving via (NL) A28, A32, A50 (DE) A3. I’ll just assume instead you take the (NL) A7, (DE) A31, A3? Must be a fun drive,

Damn, I went to AMS the 25th but I see I should have gone to DUS. The Sichuan airbus alone would have made it worthwhile.

Surprised to see someone from Assen venture all the way to DUS. Would Hannover or Hamburg not be more close by? Must have been one hell of a drive. 5 hours?

Is it suprising to see BA/Virgin as low as this? To be quite honest I am shocked…I would of expected more of the low-cost operators to experience longer delays!

Surely it is not that surprising. Frequent travellers will all know you are more likely to be delayed at LHR then you are at BRS (to name but one). With BA and VS both having mayor operations at LHR, as soon as there is a problem there BA and VS will suffer badly. Combine that with the industrial actions at BA last year (e.g. caterers) and you got a recipe for bad ratings.

What I would like to know is how these figures where derived. Did they count the averages delay of delayed flights only, or the average delay of all flights! If the latter then the situation for BA is worse then I expected.

Nice photos! You know you can avoid backlit shots by going to southside? Getting there from the AVP is quite easy and can easily be done within the hour even without car.

Also, what happened with the engine cowling of the islander?

Great shots! Really have to get back there some day.

One question though, the Hewa Bora 767… is that now on all flights? I have not seen the HBA tristar and really really really want to see it!

I say AMS or maybe DUS in that case, not very long flights in business class though? Maybe you’d like a trip to Lanzarote ? Sun, sea and some very nice approaches over the beach a la St Maarten ?

Are the any scheduled flights to Lanzarote though ?

If I had to choose between AMS and DUS I’d go for AMS. After 14:00 DUS really gets dull, and the sun gets in the wrong angle. This is not a problem at AMS. It does get more quiet after 14:00, but still busy enough. And at least at AMS there are plenty of other spots to go when the sun turns, whereas at DUS you are stuck to the terraces. Also, the Kaagbaan is gonna close sometime this year/early next so take your chance to get there! It is easy enough by bus. If coming on a saturday I am usually able to drive by if announced somewhat in advance.

I wanted to know if this book gives the number of fulcrums/flankers operational in the 80s with the VVS and PVO
and how many regiments were equipped with them till breakup of ussr
anyone who has the book plz check and confirm it … i am planning on buying it
    thankyou

There are no specific numbers. On page 101 it mentions “By 1991 the VVS had some 800 Fulcrums on strenth. They where operated by 25 fighter regiments, usually with 32 fighters to a unit…”

Can’t give you any further details on how good/bad the Fulcrum book is as I have not read it yet. It is on a big pile with “to do” books. From browsing through it I think it is a great book.

Can’t comment on the Flanker book at all as I have not got it.

What happened? Reality struck with a vengeance.

The oil crisis caused it, and it will never happen. Maybe on a small scale only with Osprey like vehicles, but judging from the Osprey’s reliability that will be some time.

Since you also want to go to NYC, why not take Continental to EWR and then onwards to SXM?

    From the Scramble message boards:

This morning a new arrival at the Aviodrome, lelystad.
It is a Casa 352L ex AdlE T.2B-275 in a silvergrey c/s and has a civilian serial on it, D-ADAM. You can find it at the T2 hangar but is covert in plastic by now. The aircraft came from the UK.

    1. Same date B747 Combi flight departs LA at 17.50 arriving Norwich next day at 17.55(making a much longer connection in Amsterdam)

    pros

    • Longer connection at AMS, some time to go spotting, stretch legs after long flight. Plenty of stuff to do at AMS for the misses and kid as well.
    • Extra day to spend in LA.

    cons

    • Just basic entertainment in 747s. No AVOD. On a long flight with a kid that might be an issue.

    2. day earlier 25th on the 777 flight same times as originally booked.

    pros

    • Excellent IFE. Since you got a kid that might be usefull.

    cons

    • Flight leaves earlier, potentially disruption from morning rush hour in LA?
    • Day less in LA. Assume you already booked hotel for that day, gonna get a KLM refund for that?
