I love the light in that BA A321 shot ๐
Some great images ๐ G-CPET is still sitting in the Californian desert sporting the full retro livery IIRC, FedEx have yet to start the cargo conversion.
5*, great illumination ๐
Nice shot ๐ The lucky thing was nearly turned into an avian pรขtรฉ.
Matt, you can, of course, change the erroneous Wikipedia entry.
I’ll do that, I too find it a great resource for most aviation related matters. For instance when I’m planning my holidays, if I know what airport I want to fly to I can look it up on Wikipedia to find out what airlines fly there.
Or if I want to know what fleet of aircraft or destination/base list a particular airline or Air Force have, again Wikipedia is my first port of call.
But I do find some of the lesser known entries are rarely kept upto date.
The only 787 that flies into LHR now is that of Qatar Airways. The last LOT 787 charter came in on the 2nd Jan unfortunately, so it’s back to the old 734 from them. But if you are looking, QTR 075 is scheduled to land at 11:05.
United launch 787 service in March, followed by ANA I believe? Although I’m personally waiting for the AA 77W JFK-LHR service coming in Febuary ๐
EDIT: I remember now why I avoid editing Wikipedia, it’s so complex you practically need a degree in IT to understand it. No doubt my edits and references will be in the wrong format and sooner or later some ‘know it all’ will come along and revert it to the original with the incorrect information. That’s usually how it goes.
It’s a shame the owner had false trust in the boy.
What was airport security doing? Or, was the airfield so small they had no one on site to see three teens jump in and fly off in a plane?
The process of engaging the reverse thrust seems overly complicated. I read a report on the Internet that suggested the pilots may have inadvertently applied full forward thrust by not waiting until the green reverse rev indication was showing. Although, if this was the case, I’m surprised the pilots didn’t realise sooner they weren’t slowing down.
I would have assumed it would be pretty obvious?
Thanks Doors, the Thai livery is great – I think it was one of the first times I saw it up close. It’s a lot ‘shinier’ than some other liveries, I think they must use a similar painting technique to the one Virgin uses?
Thanks Deano, I’m going to surprise some of you now by saying the 787 is larger (dimensionally at least) than the 767.
The standard 767-300ER is 54.9 m long, with a wing span of 47.6 m.
The 787 is 57 m long, with a wing span of 60 m.

Thanks Grey Area. You are totally correct, I was wrong… That’ll teach me for using Wikipedia as a source! Royal Brunei’s been flying into LHR since 1991.
The erroneous source; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Brunei_Airlines_destinations
The correct source; http://www.bruneiair.com/uk/about-royal-brunei/history/
Hang onto your hats! ๐ฎ look at all the jet-wash in the 5th pic! I bet you got the beautiful smell of burnt kerosene after that? Excellent pictures.
I don’t really see what the issue is here, or what’s different to what Qantas have done for the last 15 years. I have used Qantas on several occasions to travel to Australia in that time and the schedule has remained pretty much unchanged and stable for that period.
Really? As I recall the old 747s used to come in around 7-8am and depart again around 11 am. That changed with the introduction of the A380.
The title of this video seems to vouch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg9emRYPagY
EDIT: Perhaps I should use something a little more official as my source. It’s also beginning to look like the early arrivals and late departures are something recently introduced (after the A380 was introduced).
Qantas flight 32 (LHR-SIN-SYD) had it’s engine explode at 10:01 am Singapore time on 4 November 2010.
Let’s work backwards from that 10:01 time.
It had been in the air for 2 hours. So 10-2 = 8am.
Let’s say the stopover was 2 hours? 8-2 = 6am.
The flight to Singapore is 13 hours. 6-13 = 17:00.
LHR is 8 hours behind SIN. 17:00-8 = 9am depart from LHR (give or take a few).
It certainly wasn’t a late evening departure, which is what they have at present.

And to use another youtube video, sorry, does this look like a 9/10 pm departure to you? :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbzRd5vQWFc
I guess they’re appealing to two different markets? BA appeals to the discerning business traveller, while Virgin appeals to the Disney Land holiday goers. Their liveries reflect this, I would think it strange if BA went for a razzmatazz look – but you are right about them looking like inner-city buses.
Spoiler alert: I think even the cow would do a better job of stopping an aircraft than the braking systems they use on their Tupolev’s…

Thanks guys; I’m sorry to hear that Culpano (it’s begging to look like Manchester has its own micro-climate, and not a good one) ๐ You are spot on about batteries, I should get a spare. It wouldn’t have been so bad if I’d charged the one I had :p
The Virgin lipstick red is very luscious, if you look at the way the line curves up the fuselage on the A330 tail – it almost looks like a pair of lips!
I don’t think it’s a crew issue. 16 hours isn’t enough (it would be more like ~12 hours for the crew who have to do flight planning etc.) to go to a hotel room and get a good sleep.
That’s what I would have thought tenthije, it could add on an onward third leg journey to another European city (Frankfurt? Kill two birds with one stone, drop the unprofitable SYD-FRA 747 flight. Add on an extra leg to the LHR flight and increase utilisation whilst keeping Frankfurt on the destination list :diablo:).
I’m sending an email to Qantas now, I’ll post the email and the reply once (and if) I get one.
