Lower cabin altitude, higher humidity. The higher humidity will not dry you out so much and the lower cabin altitude will not drain the energy out of you.
I thought this just reduced the passenger’s susceptibility to headaches? Admittedly if you don’t feel ill or have a headache you can get a better nights sleep – so I guess in that respect it conserves energy?
And it appears to be working. Lots of positive comments are coming out regarding jet lag on the 787.
One of my mates recently did several long flights with the 787 and said the above, coupled with a good sleep almost made him feel like he never left the UK time zone.
That’s great until he lands in whichever far flung corner of the world he’s flying to… He’s had a perfect night’s sleep but it’s 21:00 local time?
He didn’t like the electronic window shade though. Said it was too slow, but that’s for another thread.
Apparently ANA customers have been complaining that it radiates heat, I don’t know if your friend can vouch this? According to an ANA report to Boeing, when in tinted mode the dark window pane absorbs a lot of sunlight and warms to uncomfortable temperatures – so much so you can feel the heat on your face.
Wow! Kudos to the Syrian crew. That must have been an absolute b**** to control…
A happy ending for the A320 passengers and my condolences to the families of the heli victims. Although, quite how you miss an A320 at FL120 (so presumably above any Arabic weather systems) is beyond me? I won’t mention poor airmanship at such an early stage of the investigation, but it does make me wonder.
I have no issue with foreign aid, provided the countries we ‘donate’ to ultimately do more trade with us…
That just isn’t happening.
The UK has long been the second largest foreign aid donor to India after the US… Yet (according to a recent Top Gear episode) Belgium does more trade with India than the UK does!
Then there’s this… http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/india/9061844/India-tells-Britain-We-dont-want-your-aid.html
I wouldn’t call myself a racist, but if that’s the attitude of India – may I reply “We don’t want your immigrants” ? 😛

I couldn’t find anything on the net about it, but from what you say, it could have been another ‘flapless’ landing? They had one at Toronto last month.

Or on reflection of your description, it could have just done a go-around? I know at LHR, after a go around, the aircraft raw over my house at about 1/2 the height they otherwise would.
I don’t really see how this would damage Monarch’s pride? Runway over-runs are a relatively common occurrence and have happened to pretty much every airline at some point (and a lot of the time a lot more seriously than this incident, eg. the Qantas over-run in 1999, http://www.skybrary.aero/images/B744_Bangkok_230999.jpg Air France flight 358 in 2005 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e0/Air_France_Flight_358_cropped.jpg and more recently Singapore Airlines at Munich http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=0rn-iI7wX-Y&NR=1 all spring to mind)
The aircraft wasn’t in Monarch livery, so again, I fail to see how this should damage the company’s pride? 🙂
I think more companies need to do the same as my mum’s.
The company itself finds the lowest fare it can, then they tell the person who’s travelling to find the lowest fare they can.
If you can find a cheaper flight than the company, then the company pays you 1/2 the difference as a “reward”.
This ‘reward’ can actually end up being quite impressive on long-haul flights where ticket prices can vary massively.
So much for the quality of pre-deployment physical exams….:)
Well this is the army, a unit not overly well known for its intellectuals.

The thing is Moggy, do you really think this ‘Dale Cregan’ would have even attempted this whole thing if he knew two armed burly blokes would turn up? Probably not.
Armed police act as a deterrent to this kind of antic.

Personally I think Tasers for all front-line police is a better option.
Although, having said that, the UK is one of very few countries where police don’t carry guns… Australia, Canada, France, Germany and Japan (to name but a few) all have armed ‘front-line’ officers…
I also feel if policeman Plod did use a firearm, and shot someone dead – they could well lose their job (as well as face prison sentences), I don’t see how this is right? The cases of Jean Charles de Menenzes and Mark Duggan spring to mind…
If you’re going to give police officers guns, you can’t penalise them for using them in high pressure situations (which seems to be the British ethos atm).

I’m surprised no-one’s said it yet, but, aircraft!
It’s incredible to think you can fly in a 575 tonne aircraft at Mach .9 at 40,000 feet.
If you took a man from just over a hundred years ago, and told them about the A380 – they might well have called you crazy. I can only really think of that, the internet and the Apollo missions that would provoke the same response 🙂
