Does anyone know what stage of development the Hawker P.1121 reached before it was cancelled? Did it ever fly?

There’s an article on the Gyron here:

    http://www.flightglobal.com/PDFArchive/View/1957/1957%20-%201073.html?search=gyron

includes a cutaway and some info. It was intended for various supersonic projects including F155T designs and the P.1121 prototype.

I have more info including pics of the prototype engine from the DeHavilland Heritage Centre. Research for my P.1103/P.1121 book 😀

P.S, I think you mean Tony Buttler’s British Secret Projects: Jet Fighters…

Thanks very much. Do you know if the PS 26-6 Gyron was designed for a specific aircraft? Also do you have any specifications of the engines performance and what was different about it to other turbojets of that era?

I believe it was designed by Frank Halford. Is this correct?

Are BA going to launch a service on any of the bmed routes? Why are BA still selling tickets on the bmed routes well into next year when they are no longer part of BA?

I seem to remember reading that this happened at Heathrow years ago. The runway position hasnt changed but the designation did due to a change in magnetic variation.

Whats happening with G-BOAB? Its currently parked at Heathrow. Are they going to put it on a podium at T5 like theyve done at CDG?

How long until the same story appears about G-BOAB ?

Whats happening with G-BOAB? I heard it was going on display at t5. Where are they going to put it, on a roundabout?

BA are not taking any more bookings for any flights around the strike dates. Is this temporary or is it just while there deciding what to do?

I have been inside a few times lately delivering signage, the place looks very ready now, and, i would think putting in signs would be almost the last thing to happen (Given the fragile nature of the signs, and not wanting them getting wrecked by flying hilti nails!!) the company doing the signs have been given till May (i think) to complete btw.

Whats the status of construction then? Is most of the interior fitted out ready? check in desks, etc.

Does anyone know why eastern airways fares are so ridiculously expensive? Why does anyone fly on them?

BAA should be forced to sell either Gatwick or Stansted to provide competition.

The closure of Heathrow was the opinion of one individual. Key Publishing are just trying to make a big issue out of it. They arent exactly going to close an airport that theyve just spent 5 billion pounds doing up. Anyway Heathrow was there before the houses. The expansion of Heathrow should have priority over the houses. Its easier to move a few hundred residents than a major airport that handels 65 million passengers a year.

The new A330 refueling planes are going to be fitted with a full passenger cabin. Why cant one of these be re-configured to suit the governments needs for transportation. Im sure there will be at least one free at any time.

Civilians can book on to the 5 monthly tristar flights to the Falkland Islands via Ascension Island. The government wants a permanent connection between the UK and the Falklands, so the RAF do it.
