Congratualtions on a lovely job and the green light!
Will you and it be attending the GVFWE at Hullavington in May? If so, there should be a John C about in a not quite sober state celebrating the completion of G AMPY (which should be transporting the volunteers there).

I’ve always classed a Warbird as any ex combat aircraft being operated in civilian hands.
By “Combat” I mean a machine designed to take the fight to the enemy and equipped with the means to do so – so in my mind, the C47 isn’t necessarily a Warbird (although the “Puff the Magic Dragon” Gunship version is) but is a Vintage or Classic.
That’s how I personally define these things, and not saying it’s right!

Ol’ JB was certainly annoyed with himself in the post race interview!! Even more annoyed was the Sauber Manager – I think they’re wondering why they employed Jaques Villeneuve 😀
Mr Schumacher will not have it all his own way this year, but don’t be surprised if he takes it again…
I’m pleased – we’ve got racing again!!

Just heard it on the news..
Another icon of my past gone. I used to tape the Friday Rock Show (I would normally be out on the P**s) and listen to it in the car over the following days.
*sigh* 🙁

Thanks everyone!

Ask yourself if you love her more than the career opportunity. You have an answer. Go with it.
Hmmm, It’s more than a career opportunity – it involves working on and flying in old aeroplanes as a living. No-one in these forums can love another human being more than that! 😀
In my view there’s plenty of room for aviation and SWMBO, the main problem is a large workload on the old girl (the plane that is) at present which is taking up a lot of time. This won’t last more than 2 more months so it’s a relatively short time.
I need to negotiate at least one day’s leave this weekend as we have to fit the port engine!
Ta for the support 🙂 Cheered me up no end.

Relationships come and go, but Aviation is for life. Nice one Steve – and oh so true.
I think we need a Sticky for “handbag” threads, such as this one 🙂 Anything with “Vulcan” involved appears to ruffle feathers (along with a few others).
Personally I’d love to see a Vulcan in the air again. I’d rather see a Lightning or a Buccaneer but that isn’t going to happen in the UK. But it just might if the Vulcan proves a successful project (ok, a VERY optimistic view, but one can always hope!). If it makes a smoking hole somewhere then there will be investigations and inquiries and life will continue on much as before. The odds are that a complex aircraft will be unable to operate without manufacturer’s support – so no great change there then.
If the project fails, then enthusiasts will be able to get involved again to screw XH558 back together as a taxiable airframe, so the scrapping option will never come to pass in my view.
Anyhow, a flying Vulcan will raise the profile of historic aviation and in all likelyhood attract more visitors to museums, increasing revenues and enabling more restoration to be carried out.
Let’s see what happens.

Dissappointed it’s finished actually!
Nice writing Steph – keep it coming, I can’t wait to read more.
JC
You really have to leave Norfolk to appreciate it fully 🙂

I thought the 146 was known as “4 oil leaks connected by an electrical fault” or “the toxic time bomb” 😀 There is another nickname, but it is offensive and unfortunately my Political Correctness, Diversity and Dignity at Work brainwashing forbids me to pass it on 🙂
JC
And then there’s the unnofficial names:
Fat Albert
BUFF
Flatiron
Whistling Wheelbarrow
Sled
Toxic Time Bomb
Loads more but I can’t be bothered to remember them 🙂
JC
Very good! What a lovely condition aeroplane. Any idea why it’s not airworthy?
JC
Good Luck for Saturday if all goes ahead, weather and paperwork permitting!
We shall be v.busy on the Dak (apparently nearly everything we’ve been waiting for returns from overhaul and NDT tomorrow [1]) so there’s no chance of coming over.
JC
[1] That’s a lot of bits – elevator and rudder hinges, tail and tail wheel fork, port engine, one of the 2 props, mainwheels and 2 fuel booster pumps. There may be even more than that and it all needs to go on next weekend.
:diablo:
I’m not THAT daft 🙂
JC
Ok so I’ll need the regulator then 😀

Ok, I haven’t built a kit for years but I do have a cheapy airbrush (one of the ones that use canned propellant).
I also have a compressor with an 8 litre tank (used for nail guns, air tools etc). Will the 2 work together, or will I end up with an exploding airbrush and the walls covered in Matt Olive Drab?
Something I’d rather know now, rather than post explosion…
