Had to have our eldest cat put to sleep last night 🙁 After sitting in the vets last night surrounded by barking, yapping, howling dogs I decided I hated the damned beasts! Smelly, noisy and demanding creatures that will bite you if turn your back on them. Just like helicopters.

Just take a deep breath and think calming thoughts…

Showing my age, but it had a similar effect when I saw it at the cinema! In my defence and to prove that I’m not THAT old, I was about 10 or 11 years old at time (1976?).

An everlasting affection for the SE5a has resulted however…

For Lotus/Vauxhall/Opel 🙂 Golden days… Also worked on the fwd Elan and did a lot of work on Esprit. Still do the same for Jaguar, but the job is a lot less interesting – no “European Tours” any more or silly adventures in development vehicles 🙁

Marvellous car – I type approved it! It felt and sounded as if it had a jet engine with reheat attached to it. If you floored it in 3rd at 50mph it was as though everything else had done an emergency stop. Great if repmobile man was tailgaiting you. 75 mph in 2nd gear, 180 mph 4 up with full luggage. Would also pull from 20 mph in 3rd and you didn’t need 4th until 120 mph with 5th and 6th to go. Marvellous, bloody Marvellous!

Ummmm, to keep this on thread, we used to go outside to watch the Memphis Belle aircraft flying overhead when I was at Lotus – quite stunning. Also a little eery as well considering that Hethel was a B24 base.

No VJ Day Air show then?

On the subject of SO’s and Psychology Degrees, I was helping out Ms JC with an assignment last night [1]. I do hope she checks it.. I’m sure that “Drug the buggers” is not an acceptable solution to “The Cognitive Psychologist’s Approach to Schizophrenia” 🙂

Last Mildenhall I went to would have been 1992 (or 3) – and that was a stunning event.

I’ll go along with you Kelvin! I remember going to one based around the Museum and one or 2 others, with the rest watched from the garden 🙂 I probably went to the September 86 one after avoiding the earlier one due to nothing interesting being on the programme, then a couple after that.

Last airshow for me was one of the Shuttleworth Evening do’s in July/August 2003 and that was simply marvellous!

I caught the midnight airing – repeated Friday I think. Judging by the titles, there’s still quite a few more episodes to come – yummy.

I’ve been to the Cat and Custard Pot near Hawkinge (would have been in 1990)! It was on a family holiday and probably part of the repeated attempt to find the Brenzett Museum (and repeatedly finding it closed).

The only pubs I can think of quickly are the Sole and Heal in Rackheath near Norwich – used to have some history as it was on the base but on last visit seems to have a shoe theme (but good food!) and the one near Coltishall that used to have the prop on the wall outside (Three Horseshoes?). In Coventry there is the Pilot pub and a new pub called the Tiger Moth (for some strange reason).

On the A14 in Northants there is a pub called the Fox – it’s got “Fox Food” painted in white on the roof! Worth a visit as it appears to have a link with a Bomber airfield. there are a lot of aviation paintings inside and a large mural of a dispersal scene on the wall. It’s a bit of a “Slaughtered Lamb” atmosphere but interesting..

I remember that! For the previous 2 years(ish) there’d been a reasonable little show – Vulcan, BBMF, Red Arrows and all the usual performers – and then there was THAT show with an F27 and a couple of C172’s 🙁

Thought it was a bit later than that – 1988? Pretty sure that there was Camel sponsored Lotus F1 car there.

I also cheated as I could watch most of the show from my parents’ back garden if I wished 🙂

I’ve heard it so many times since I’ve worked at Jaguar, it’s either true or urban legend.
