ok then, lets say that the money was availiable, how much would it cost, to have 724 dismantled properly, and roaded to another airfield where she could stretch her legs again, just a guestimate?
This is all part of a plan that is being acted on at the moment, indeed, things should be a little clearer as to her future in the next few weeks or so.
Chris, 887 currently weighs in at a little over 1.8 tonnes.
the FAA museum didn’t seem that helpful Steve and Colin went down to enquire and they appeared a bit suspicious that we might be after a freebie
Matt, leave it with me, I’ll get the info you require, if they have it. I have a lot of contacts within the FAAM.
Barry Parkhouse has/had a couple of the engines from these in his yard, I have contact details if you wish to chase this up.
Viewing Dates are: 6th – 10th May 2008 and these are to be arranged with the point of contact.
Please contact Mr J W Dunford: 01980 663653
Mr N McHoul: 01980 663532
Looks like I was right about the MiG.
PS – That wont stop me going to look at the Drover some time this year…
Did you have any luck with the contact that myself and David threw your way?
Someone from Kennet recently posted on the forum suggesting that XL500 is taking low priority behind the SeaFires.
I know for a fact that John Sparks has made enquiries about 500 and I have submitted a transport costing, but that was towards the back end of last year.
Possibly, although I have not had word of her moving yet.
What I would like to know is which MiG-17 is it, the only ones I know to be airworthy are in the states and some still in service with some minor countries.
What I think you will find is that Hunter Flying are taking on the MiG-17 from Bournemouth and a Gannet from somewhere for restoration.
I await the outcome with baited breath.
My frustration with the owners of the collection boiled over to the point that I have two saw blades with the wording “Lasham Collection” marked on them, they are just waiting for the call. 😀
I remember seeing this aircraft in sections at Kemble about 10 years ago, often wondered about its fate.
Matt, I take it you mean Meteor WF877 not Canberra WF887?
Are you converting to the Canberra?
No, I am on the hunt for another group whom we have become friendly with.
the attitude became increasingly less helpful or even polite, the majority of aircraft were cleared years ago.
So it wasn’t just me then!!! I thought that Steve was particularly unhelpful and disinterested, I had a wedge of cash burning a hole in my pocket and they had what I wanted, still, Richard Hukins was more greatful of my custom.
