Lansen at Cranfield….. 😮Didn’t know there was one there……..one of my fav jets:D
Firebird, where have you been!!!! She has been there years, she was in an overall Silver colour scheme the last time I saw her, shame it’s not in the Green that was popular in the seventies.
I have recently (6/12/2003) received a pic of Buccaneer XX885 in the hangar at Scampton, behind it is the Meteor and it seems as though she is receiving some attention, anyone know any different?
Cargomaster,
The aircraft that caused a huge fuss at GC back in the Seventies!!! The campainers rejected F1-11’s being based at GC (personally I would have loved it), we all know what they got in return.
Great to see these images of my childhood.
Did anyone get photos of a Dassault Atlantique bursting its tyres upon landing? The trouble is I cannot remember what year it happened.
Very saddened to hear of the passing of Robert, I met him on a few occasions and at various airfields, most recently at Kemble.
My condolences to Robert’s Family, Friends & Collegeaues, he will be greatly missed.
The HLF’s decision on the Vulcan will have no bearing whatsoever with regards to either a Buccaneer or a Lightning flying on a CAA Permit to Fly.
Question, Is anyone restoring a Lightning to flying condition in this country?
Answer, No.
The reasons behind this are numerous and have been well documented in the past, but with the CAA’s negative attitude towards the Lightning, the chances are that no one will ever restore one back to flight status.
The Buccaneer is a totally different animal all together.
Hawker Hunter Aviation are working along the right tracks with XX885, so lets wait and see what happens.
Many Thanks Cargomaster, those two brought back fond memories.
I am looking at gaining as much material as possible from the IAT years at Greenham Common with a view to constructing a web site in the near future (don’t worry Stringbag, I will construct this one!!!), so contributors are greatly appreciated.
It does not seem that long ago to me but Greenham Common 1976!!!!!!!!!! was my first airshow at the tender age of 5.
I remember seeing a Sea Vixen on static in an authentic Royal Navy colour scheme.
The two things that stick in my memory the most from that day was the Vulcan’s display and shielding my ears from the awesome Lightning F.3, those were the days!!
If anyone has any images from any of the Greenham tattoo’s, please get in touch.

The Manston Bucc, XV864, is no further forwards in her possible move as far as I know.
Everything concerning her seems to have gone rather quite and the chances of her moving during the Winter are quite remote.
One machine that will be moving fairly soon is XW544 at Shawbury. The guys are waiting on the attachment bolts for the wing D-sling to come back from remanufacture, then its off to Bruntingthorpe to position along slide XX894 & XX900, so it will not only be Thunder City who have three Bucc’s in the same place, although sadly, the Brunty Bucc’s will always be ground bound!!:(
Indeed, MDF, she is a bad way, my reporter says that the left-hand side of the pilot’s position is in a real mess.
Anyone whom take’s this section on has a major job on their hands.
Lets just hope that some of her goes to helping other projects.
Whenever we heard over the base radio that John Bradshaw’s Fury was going up or coming into land, we would all run for cover, no joke!!
We saw many a bad landing with this aircraft whist we were at Kemble, how on earth they never stacked it is beyond me!!

How about S.2B XW544 at Shawbury..still due to move to Brunty…will it have a chance at running..or is she without engines?
Unfortunately 544 will be unable to running initially, her engines were bolted many moons ago and are now full of corrosion, also most of the ancillaries are missing. But who know what could happen in the future.
897 on the other hand is a different beast. Hangared & Running, the guys hope to be able to fast taxi her next year. She currently sits on jacks with one of the main wheel units removed due to a bearing failure but a replacement bearing is making it way to the aircraft and should be installed very soon.
As for the CAA’s attitude towards the Bucc………….no comment, yet!! Keep your ears open.
Trumper, I have just had a look at the site from a different PC and everthing seems to be working ok.
The only menu that currently has any pop up’s is the Guest Book.
Could other visitors please tell me if they too are experiencing problems with my site?
Check out my web site M8 to get the latest on 897.
Better still, come on down to Bournemouth Aviation Museum this weekend, the BEST Pirates will be working away on her, I am sure that they will find time to answer any questions you may have.
Stringbag, They did manage to get hold of a Buddy pack for XW987, but I am not sure whether it works or not.
Barry did ask me if he could have a copy of my Pod manuals, but until I have a complete list of what he removed from XX894, I will continue to stand firm on not helping them anymore.
Craig is doing fine and should be back in the cockpit within the next six or so months.
He has been advise not to fly the Hunter or for that matter any other aircraft that is not fitted with a progressive firing ejection seat.
