looks like some interesting (but sad) times ahead at Cosford as none of them will be flying out again:(
I remember saying something along these lines when they retired the remaining Bucc’s into St Athan in 94!!
Plazz,
Well done today, ok u got her home whats the plan with her now. Bex
Hi Bex, our first undertaking is to get her ready for the Kemble Airday on June 17th, that means everything back on, a complete and thorough wash down and a bit of TLC on a couple of areas of paint work.
After the airday, a restoration plan is set to be kicked into motion, Milt will tell you how thorough we are and the long term aim is to make her live again, but we must ensure that she is still around long after some of the others have gone to the smelter, so internal work has to be up to a very high standard.
The petition has just passed 1000 signatures, please keep them coming.

Dear All,
Please sign the petition on the attached link to help save general aviation flying at Kemble Airfield.
Kemble Appeal to GA Community
Kemble Airport is to fight a legal battle with Costwold District Council following the issue of enforcement notices to stop some of the activities at the airfield. The aerodrome management are appealing to the GA community for support.
The airfield, which was officially opened in 1938, has been home to Central Flying School, The Red Arrows and the USAF as well as being used for storage and maintenance. Cotswold District Council are trying to contend that flying activity must be in connection with storage and maintenance.
The present airfield manager, David Young, has been involved with managing the airfield since 1995 and says there is no immediate threat to operations. He said: “It is inconceivable that this near 70 year old airfield could have some flying activity seriously curtailed. Therefore, the onus is on us now to demonstrate that flying at Kemble should in no way be restricted.”
Kemble was licensed by the CAA in 2001 and two years later the airfield received the Flyer Magazine airfield of the year award. Last year Kemble gained airport status and owner, Ronan Harvey, is currently funding a £5m investment to develop the facilities. These include seven new GA hangars, which have just been completed, and work has commenced on five others.
Mr. Harvey said: “We would like to appeal to all pilots who have used Kemble, especially in the last ten years, to write to us and send photocopies of log book entries; also to sign our petition.”
they will be showing a recently completed stunning recreation of the Brockworth built Gloster Whittle E28/39.
And an excellent recreation it is too, unfortunately, due to restrictions, I am unable to show you any images.
A huge round of applause should head to Jet Age Museums, Chris Radford, as he spent the best part of the last two years working on it.
Very, very sad news, I have been fortunate enough to have met Neville on plenty of occasions and he will be very sadly missed.
I have it on good authority that although, yes, it will be easy to remove the tail section at the transport joint (I have done a few as well), but the attachments of the plinth are a bit of a dog and will not be easy, disc cutter anyone?
Happy Birthday Martin.
I know of a UK based Buccaneer cockpit that is just about to come up for sale if your interested.
Rocket packs have been found, biggest problem for 885 is the fact that HHA have been, and rightly so, sorting out the paperwork and operation of Hunters that have recently re-entered the Military register.
At this moment in time, the Hunters are bringing in revenue as where the Bucc is not!!
As for flying this year, we’ll have to wait and see.
Mark, it is unlikely that 863 will end in a scrap yard, I know two rather wealthy individuals who are looking to purchase the aircraft, one of whom has already been to Lossie with cheque book in hand and offered big money to the C/O.
And as you say, she has a lot of history and is more than worthy of preservation.
Andrew, you are quite right, the Draken will NOT be based at Kemble.
For stringbag . . . here’s a pic of XH516 at Kemble 99 with the yellow nose door and some nervous looking young bloke standing next to it. 😉
🙂
And he hasn’t changed a bit, I’ll have what Mark’s on 😀
I love returning to Kemble as much as possible, and the chance to be part of the Airshow team courtesy of Glen and Merv is one which I am eternally grateful for…. this year being no exception!!!! 😉
Roll on June 17th
Hear, Hear, Pete.
I remember Mark taking this footage and I still cannot believe it was 7 years ago!!
I am led to believe that Owner and Buccaneer Society Member, John Hoole, is looking to venture to the Fest with XZ431.
