Above list updated to include our latest project, Meteor NF.14 WS807, to come under restoration on behalf of the Jet Age Museum.
Keep up the good work guys, she looks in the best of health and long may it continue.
Reading through your diary, you mention the use of Alloy Wheel Cleaner for areas of corrosion on Magnesium Alloy, any particular product? We have tried allsorts (most of them expensive) of products and have yet to find one that really sorts out this problem, we have gone down the route of Keronite but its expensive and they don’t seem particularly interested in one offs, although it comes back like new.
Good shout Rocketeer, used some of this on a couple of heavily corroded items that we had in store and they came up good.
I am however, still looking for something half decent that will prevent the corrosion of Magnesium Alloy, have tried many different and expensive products from both the UK and the States, but have not really found one that I am confident with.
Anyone able to guide me?
I see from the Meteor Flights website that WA591 is well on the way to flight status once again but it does seem to have taken quite sometime to get their, so lets hope that with this news, the work rate will increase and we can look forwards to see another Classic Jet in our skies once again in the foreseeable future.
One question to ask anyone whom is connected with the Meteor Flight, once 591 is ready to fly, where will she fly from?
Nick, I live in Newbury and have something that maybe of interest in our library, PM me.
I should say so 😮 , best of luck Roy.
50th anniversary of the first flight of Saunders-Roe SR.53 XD145.
When you say ‘top of the tree’ does that mean Ive got to wear a fairies outfit 😀
Now that conjures up a terrible image 😀 Just don’t let Milt know about this or he might start getting ideas 😮
Bournemouth
Work is being done on the MiG and has recently had to move around inside the Museum hangar due to safety reasons. It now lives on the Side of the hangar in its own taped off compound where work is being done.
Thanks for clearing that up for us EB, us part timers who help look after Buccaneer XX897, are not there often enough to see if anything is being done.
The aircraft deplicted in the photo is that of XE665/G-BWGM and currently at Kemble Airfield with Delta Jets after arriving on the 11th November.
A few years back a MIG 17 was being worked on at Borunmouth (I think). The plan was to get it flying but nothing has been said about it for sometime so is the project still ongoing and if so when can we expect to see the MIG flying ?
Andrew, the MiG-17 (1211/G-MIGG), is still at Bournemouth Aviation Museum and is still in the state of having the rear fuselage separated from the rest of the jet so that the engine can be seen, it is believed that no restoration work has been undertaking in over two years, so the chances of seeing her in the air are effectively zero for the forseeable future at least.
Well it’s very nice but the price… I’d rather have the Bucc seat.
Not for that sort of money!!! Way to much for an oddity, even serious seat collectors have mentioned that its over valued.
I was under the distinct impression that the rocket packs had been found.
Several have been found but their current owners will not let them go for peanuts!!
Buccaneer flying in the UK, 2007 bring it on!!!!!!!!!.
John.
Only if rocket packs can be found for the seats 🙁
One of the Rossington Lightning’s, it was rescued just as the shovel of a JCB was crashing through her spine (the damage has been repaired) I cannot remember if the wings were cut on her for transport.
If I remember correctly, their was not much holding her wings on after the JCB had started to attack her. 😮
