Forgot to say why: because of the recent unrests in the country. Rebels have taken over a town. The roads from the airport to the city are blocked. Burning cars etc.
Video from the Flemish television here: http://vrtnieuws.streampower.be/nieuwsnet_master/default/nieuws/overzicht/040604_Congoreisadvies/index.html?video_2The video short:
Bukavu has been taken over by rebels. Crisis meeting with Snba. PAssengers stranded. People arriving in Kinshasa unable to reach town 12 hours later, the airport is blocked.

I just checked the ISE and the stock prices remain at the same level, the only sudden drop was at the end of january from 7.5 to 4.5 EUR per share, I don’t know why.
I wanted to buy shares of Ryanair (in the name of my father) but I’ll probably go for the Virgin Express shares.

I hope the Belgian government impounds a plane. When he comes to collect it they can say ‘f**k off!’

    That won’t happen.
Firstly, banning Ryanair would mean the unemployment in our country would get even worse. Secondly Ryanair had a great contribituion to the Belgian economy, which is remarkably recovering faster than other countries.
Thirdly, practices like this are very childish. They can’t ban ryanair from Belgium, the can’t. Imagine: “I lost my job because the government said my employer had to leave the country”. Shouldn’t that make you lose your thrust in the government? Yes.

Maybe A340-500’s would suit them better. It would enable them to fly to Sydney non stop… However this link isn’t necassairy maybe?
Are there any airlines currently operating the series 500? AC stored them…

Virgin Express recently added 4 euros per one way to compensate high fuel prices. But, when Saoudi Arabia increases production+ all other OPEC countries, fuel prices will descent again. Usually normal petrol (not Diesel) costs around €1 here. Now it costs €1.17!

Eva Air probably doesn’t have maintenance staff in Heathrow, isn’t there a subsidiary like BA technics or so? Well, then it’s them who investigate it and will repair it.

I learned today in Economics lesson that the cost of assets is spreaded on the estimated age the object is going to reach before it is going to be replaced. Does it also work in the airline business?
Good, finally a totally new project in the commercial aircraft business. Would it likely carry an european registration? I don’t think so too soon, most European airlines have a modern fleet. Maybe Olympic or Finnair? They have an older fleet than other European airlines…Peter, I don’t think the longhaul sector can be compared to the RJ sector, but what exactly do you mean?
