Thanks for the information in this. I am quite sure that its from a car rather than an
aircraft, but you never know.
Johnnie
Sorry I still haven’t posted the list. Its taken a little longer that I thought it would to sort out (and I’ve also developed a streaming cold over the last few days).
I’m quite sure there isn’t anything Canberra, Tornado, Phantom, Chipmunk, Harrier, Auster, Jaguar, Fouga Magister, Tucano or Gnat related, however there might be the odd instrument that would have been used in some of these aircraft.
Johnnie
Thanks for the photo. It certainly looks like the control handle in the photo of the
Balliol although mine lacks the rubber.
Johnnie
Out of interest, could it have changed shape in later mks?
Do members also think that the BP Balliol is not an option?
Johnnie
thanks for both of those messages. Well it looks like we can rule out the Firefly (or at least the Firefly I).
Johnnie
I hadn’t thought of that. The ex owner thought it was from a BP balliol or a Fairy Firefly
but I haven’t a clue.
Johnnie
I know. I am starting to think it might have been easier to put them on ebay and then put that on the forum.
To be honest, lots of the parts are probably not that impressive/useful, but you never know. There might be something that somebody needs or wants.
Johnnie
just wanted to bring this back to the top. I have been told it may be from a
BP balliol or could be possibly Fairy Firefly but was wondering if anybody could confirm.
Johnnie
When I get the list sorted I’ll post all the items I have for sale on here as it seems it might be the best way to sort it.
Although I’m still not 100% sure what i have to get rid of I’m pretty sure there are no
Cub or Tiger parts.
Johnnie
Thanks for the messages and feedback. I’ll try and sort a list out and get back to you.
Johnnie
Do you have a rough date?
I have a log book to a chap who was flying Kittyhawks/Warhawks with 260 Squadron in 1943, and on the 3rd Feb he notes:
Kittyhawk III “B” Misurata to Castel Benito Escort to Rt Hon Winston Churchill Misurata to Castel Benito.
I am not sure how Churchill had made it to Misurata, and as Johnson didn’t join the Canadian Wing until March 1943 (I think), it probably has nothing to do with your question however I thought it might be of some interest.
I suppose there is always the chance that your question relates to an escort to get Churchill towards North Africa, however I would guess ut probably relates to a later escort after D-Day.
Johnnie
There are no aircraft targets on Otterburn now (although small scraps might remain where they used to be) however there are a lot of vehicles.
Johnnie
Just wondering who your English wonders are. i am assuming Bader is one,
but was wondering who the other was.
I know 296 Squadron at Earls Colne had a high ranking officer (I think
he may have even been the Squadron CO) who had at least one
leg missing, and I am sure at a squadron reunion (not 296) a while back
i met an old chap who had lost at least one leg and went back on ops.
Johnnie
PS, I’m afraid I don’t have the rest of the cockpit!
Johnnie
I am indeed the same boy (now a little older at 27). I still have the rest of the stuff, however I always wish I had bought the ejector seat you had. Are you still in the area?
I’ll send a PM.
