    John,

I wouldnt dare to put my head in the modellers lions den! I think you had better come armed with slide rule, string and tape, and do the measuring yourself – you would be more than welcome any time. We did meet there some years ago!

Incidentally, Tamiya took all their measurements from our aircraft – as did Revell at about the same time…..

Apologies for the late reply – been away for the weekend.

My apologies I have just seen your reply. Yes we have met, and I would like to make another visit to your excellent museum. I had heard that Tamiya had been to the museum but as there are some folks who think the kit dimensions are wrong, I’d like to put my own file together, as it wouldn’t be the first time that there has been conflict between reality, myth, manufacturers handouts and “my mate says”. Newark is another museum who have been very accomodating to my foibles of appearing with tapes, levels and plumb lines. I hope to see you when the museum is next open.

    Regards

They were made to licences from Rohrbach in Germany. Most of the family were flying boats, including the Beardmore Inverness.

Reading these posts it would make the airshow appearance as Syerston 1957, can anyone confirm this.

I don’t recall a Mosquito flypast at any Syerston show and the only Mosquito I recall was at Wymswold in the static in IIRC 1955. I attended my first BoB at Newton in 54(I’m sure) then the following year it moved to Wymswold and from then on was at Syerston. I remember that near to the Mosquito was parked a Fairchild Argus. Sadly I have no photos of the Wymswold event.

………….and here’s Messenger G-AKEZ, on my side of la manche, many years ago. Perhaps taking its owners on a trip to the races or the casino?

Is this not the Messenger hiding behind the Norecrin in the Which aerodrome thread. Because behind the Messenger is an Ercoupe. Coincidence or was the aerodrome Deauville.

The Air Britain book by James J Halley The Squadrons of the Royal Air Force 1918 to 1988
has little more to offer than that which you know already. Rawlinsons book does not even mention the first war.

Unfortunately, Thursday is one of those days where you wont find anyone around in the winter.

Even though we are closed, you will usually find a welcome on Saturdays and Sundays, and donations are always welcome.

John, if there is anything specific you need, then please feel free to ask!

    Kind regards

    Bruce

I would like to know the overall dimensions of the Mosquito fin and rudder as there is a bit of a wobble going on in the scale model world ref the height of the vertical tail on the Tamiya kit. and with the new Revell one iminent, forewarned is fore armed. I was down that way this morning at Alan Hall’s funeral.

    Regards

    John
