Wibault 121? or one of the 7-series
John
Hi Graham,
My opinion is that I don’t want generic stuff about the aircraft. I would like more information that explains what is actually happening in the photographs, for example, looking at the Hurricane photo: what is the actual sequence of construction? where was the photo taken, how many people / how long would it take to build the aircraft, What are the other aircraft to the right, etc, etc
cheers
Jim
The other a/c on the right look to be either Persian or Latvian Mercury engined Hinds.
John:)
I had occasion to go into Ely Hospital for a minor Op in the 70’s and there was a small room just off our ward and on a rare occasion when the door was left open I saw the most pathetic and distorted creature I have ever seen and I was told by one of the nurses it was the poor airman who had been overcome by fumes and collapsed into a bath of Tric. Not a pleasant memory.
John
It is. You’re in the seat.
John
Again this is relatively easy.

I think it’s a Fiat G5/2
John
It has a Caudron look to it.

The Rotol prop blades are not plain wood but are high pressure resin impregnated laminates finished with an early plastic coating. One of the trade names was Jablo.

Though probably not the place for this, I have just heard from my son who is an aircraft engineer at Christchurch and lives just north of the city and they are thankfully all OK though there has been much loss of life and devastation. I know there are some other forum members from Christchurch area and I hope they are OK too.

I can’t help as to the letter at this time but the incudent you refer was 5/5/38. during the 1938 Munich crisis the sqn wore the codes WT.-. Have you tried local newspaper coverage, there might even be a picture.
John
It was a Wellesley Mk.1. Quite an accident prone a/c. They carried 35 in flight colours in front of the roundel and a letter after. K8530 was coded G for instance. It ended up in the Middle East with 47 Sqn and was SOC in 1941. K files.
John
Well it looks to have Taylorcraft origins but I’ll never believe it flew.

The Boxkite(Bauxite aluminium ore) reference is a “in” joke as James very kindly arranged a private visit to see the Boxkite on my last trip down under.
John
It might possibly be recycled Boxkite (Bauxite)!
John
Yes, or Blackburn M1/30
