    Irbis-E is an AESA. Not a PESA.
    AESA suffers much less in terms of range.

    In fact, there are several kind of radar :

    • M-Scan : “old fashioned” radar, Captor (Eurofighter) is the best (last ?) of this kind. Excellent field of view even high off axis (+/-70°) ;
    • PESA : the antenna move no more, the scan is done electronically, with phase shifters (example : RBE-2 on Rafale, MiG-31 radar, etc). Because of the phase shifters, and cooling issues, those radars have limitations in range and particularly off axis ;
    • AESA : the scanning works just like the PESA, and it shares the same issues (narrow field of view) ;
    • and then, you have a kind of mechanical AESA, which have a mechanically moving but electronically steered antenna so as to overcome the problem of mechanically fixed AESA. This is a kind of hybrid solution.

    I’m afraid that you’re calling “PESA” (Passive Electronically Steered Array) what is actually “MSA” (Mechanically Steered Array) or “M-Scan”.

    There was a similar but smaller one on previous versions, also Flankers which acts as wheel brake switch (your bicycly brake lever is well thought ;)). I suppose this hasn’t changed.

    Thanks 😉

    There is a huge lever on the MiG-35 stick, just like a big bicycle brake lever.

    Has this something got to do with TVC ?:confused:

    Nicolas Sarkozy propose le Rafale au Sultanat d’Oman

    par Emmanuel Jarry

    MASCATE, Oman, 10 février (Reuters) – Nicolas Sarkozy a proposé mardi au sultanat d’Oman de remplacer sa vingtaine de chasseurs-bombardiers franco-britanniques Jaguar par des Rafale de Dassault Aviation (AVMD.PA: Cotation), a-t-on appris auprès de la présidence française.

    Le président français a évoqué cette question parmi d’autres dossiers bilatéraux avec le sultan Qabous Bin Saïd as-Saïd, lors d’un entretien suivi d’un dîner à Mascate, deuxième étape d’une tournée dans la région, qui l’avait conduit auparavant à Bagdad.

    Les Omanais veulent changer leurs Jaguar, dont ils avaient commandé les premiers exemplaires dans les années 1970.

    Selon l’Elysée, la France fera une démonstration du Rafale en Oman à la demande du sultan Qabous.

    Les négociations conduisant à la vente éventuelle de tels appareils peuvent durer des années, prend cependant soin de rappeler la présidence française : “Ce sont des choses qui ne se font pas en un voyage.”

    […]

    Oman, Bahreïn et Koweït sont encore aujourd’hui dans une large mesure une chasse gardée anglo-américaine. Une situation que le président français a l’ambition de remettre en cause.

    “Ce sont des pays de tradition anglo-saxonne ? Très bien. Mais la France a sa carte à jouer”, a déclaré Sarkozy à des journalistes avant son entretien avec le sultan Qabous.

    “Moi, je ne pars pas perdant ici. On sème des graines et puis on se battra pour défendre nos entreprises, ramener des contrats”, a-t-il ajouté.

    Its got everything todo with aviation and you know it, an absolutly integral part of the Rafales ability to perfom missions was broken by a virus, I don’t know why you and others can’t seem to admit this.

    BECAUSE the fleet isn’t grounded. It’s over. No need to talk about it for months.

    IF it has prevent Rafale from taking off, it’s not a long lasting story, we’re so far from what the papers told us (which is funny when you want to laugh at our army) that the MoD denied.

    Face it the Rafale was screwed over by this virus.

    Your choice of words reveals what really matters to you. And since you’re not talking about the Rafale, but it’s mission planning system, who cares ? The problem is that it works with Windows, and the real problem is not a Rafale problem, just matter of network security. Basically nothing to do with aviation.

    You’re not only “off topic”, you’re “off forum”, and trying to annoy us.

    You’d better go there.

    Thats pretty poor really and not what one would expect from a supposed ‘cutting edge’ fighter jet.

    I would agree if we could be sure the story is true. But the MoD denied the fact that the Rafale were grounded.
