    @TMor:
Interestingly, many of the improvements you mention for 2020-2025, like radar, M88-3 and CFT, have in principle been planned by the year 2001 for 2006 already as Rafale Mk2 for export.
    http://aviationweek.com/shownews/01paris1/airfrm08.htm

No : the AESA will be there as soon as 2012. It’s just that there will be another improvement for 2020/25.

M88-3 and CFT will wait longer for France, as we do not need it yet.

I hope the upgrades progress as quickly as possible now. The bird deserves it.

That’s a well known problem. The ECO program has demonstrated that the 90kN M88 is feasible, but France isn’t interested in it.;)

That linked article about the Dutch evaluation spoke of the Rafale F4.

It’s some kind of un-official designation for the 2012/15 standard (AESA/MWR-NG/OSF-IT/Meteor…), as used earlier.

If you refer to the 2012 standard, then its name is now F3+ or “post F3“, or “roadmap” : this means that it’s a F3 with new radar (AESA), new FSO (FSO-IT) and new MWR (DDM-NG).

Meteor is planned for 2015, as well as, maybe, an offensive jamming system, and a SATCOM antenna, all under this “post F3”

If you’re talking about the real last “F4” we could read about in the press, then, it could very well be some kind of mid-life upgrade for the Rafale :

Notionally, military officials are starting to discuss an F4 standard, while stressing that nothing concrete is planned right now. That configuration would be targeted for fielding around 2015-18. At the moment, it serves largely as a brainstorming function, says one project official.

It would likely be a large overhaul, on the scale of the shift from F1 to F2, which changed out the processing backbone of the fighter. The navy program official notes that around that time, the current processing capability will likely be headed toward its maximum and will need to be replaced. The F4 is being likened to the Mid-Life Upgrade program that the F-16 fleet has undergone.

Also on the agenda are subsystem enhancements and new weapons, including whether to add a suppression of enemy air defense (SEAD) capability, electronic attack functions or a towed-decoy for self-protection. Right now, the latter is low on the priority list and the penalty in terms of loss of maneuverability is not seen as compensating for the added protection. Interest in a decided SEAD capability is relatively mild, as operational planners realize the combination of Spectra’s geolocation capability and the coming AASM bomb will give them an ability not just to suppress, but to destroy radar sites.

    Link (March 2007)

Finally, according to our french magazine Technologie et Armement (T&A n°6 June 2007), something is expected to come by 2020/2025… This may significantly improve stealth and survivability, add CFT, M88-3, replace the radar and other sensors…
But in this case, the name is Rafale NG.

I think that the Aviation Week article is a bit out-dated, in fact, T&A get it right. The F4 or MLU will be the Rafale NG for 2020/25.

Is it possible to lease some Rafales in the meantime? (even F1).

This is what the F1s look like now :

    😀
The F2’s are being retrofitted in F3… M11 and B307 are already the 2 first F3’s. It takes several weeks to get the job done (8 weeks). 35 Rafale still have to be retrofitted too (which should last 6 weeks per Rafale).

And the F3-O are coming (the F3-O “O” like “obsolescence” are new built F3 with new up-to-date components).:)

I think the Rafale might be in a better position here, though it’s also not that easy for the french forces to accept slower deliveries for a period of time.

The current delivery rate is under 1.3 per month. It’s extremely low, TOO low. Since Dassault has long said they could increase the production rate up to 3 Rafale a month, though i don’t know the conditions, i guess they still can increase the rate a bit, without additional delays for France…

The problem is that 2010 is the year when AESA will start production (deliveries in 2011). It may be a bit late…

    40 Mirage 2000 (old / -5mk2) from Greece, 63 Mirage (top notch -9 ) from UAE…

How many fighters does India want ? Was the Mirage is a good position before Dassault stopped the Mirage 2000 production line ? :D:D

According to this article (which deals with american nuclear bombs in Germany), the Typhoon, in Germany, may succeed the Tornado by 2010.

Rafale development future may look like an issue, but at least, standard F3 is about to be qualified, Exocet has been tested (in June 2007).
The AESA is secured too, with a proper integration, and real AESA capabilities (like interleaved modes etc)… Which, according to our newspaper Air & Cosmos is quite questionable about CAESAR, but it’s another topic.

The French government and Dassault talk a lot during a hard day’s night. 😀

    😀 Let’s cross our fingers…

Did You mean to clear around 100 Rafale ?

France doesn’t want Rafale for lack of money and because Rafale has been payed too much from AdA. On the other side Dassault can’t be unsatysfied and so, now Rafale are ‘for sale’.

Buy 3 and pay 2, special offers!!!
    😉

Ok, since you posted a full message full of nonsense :D, I’ll reformulate :

Claude Guéant, Secretary-General of l’Elyzée, declared that France had “serious hopes” to sell around 100 Rafale, in addition to French needs.
    In clear :
From 240 to 294 Rafale for France + 100 Rafale for export.

According to Dassault, in 2020, 240 Rafale will have been delivered to France, and the 54 remaining should come after 2020.

Where did you read that France doesn’t want Rafale ?
Where did you read that Rafale for foreign countries will be drawn from the production initially for France ?
    😉

    2 news :

    • The “Livre Blanc de la Défense” is now complete. In 2020, France shoud have 300 combat aircraft, including the MN’s aicraft.
      • 60 Rafale M
      • 60 Mirage 2000D (upgraded)
      • 180 Rafale C/B.

Some sources conclude that the Rafale program will be “shortened”, but according to Dassault, it’s only a matter of slowing down the deliveries, again. Thus, the target number of 294 Rafale isn’t questionned so far, though the last Rafales won’t be delivered before 2020 (maybe later to replace the aging M2000D).
That’s my understanding of the situation, other French may correct it.:o

Well, there’s no evidence that active cancellation exists on Rafale.

But this 3rd level must gather the most sensible jamming modes.

I remember Torpedo, in the former “Rafale news part II” thread, said that Spectra uses 2 AESA antenna.

    http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1209299&postcount=533
At the time, Arthuro and I provided links showing that Spectra uses MMICs.

Actually, i’ve just discovered a PDF from Thalès that says that Spectra actually uses active arrays.

According to the magazine T&A, Spectra has 3 levels of jamming. Even in France, the third isn’t used, in case of spying.

Re the Paveway III comment – it seems genuine..

That’s what i think too. After all, RAF has it in its inventory, isn’t it ? (EPW3)
