    Do you suggest the UK MoD made a mistake ?
    http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceNews/EquipmentAndLogistics/TyphoonProvesItsAirsurfaceCapability.htm

    comprising 43 Paveway II bombs, eight enhanced Paveway IIIs and 16 1,000 lb (454kg) free fall weapons.

    The article says “PW II” and “E-PW III”. GBU-16, and, i guess, EGBU-27 (Enhanced GBU).

    Ive got a question. Just how are those simulated AAM firings performed? How can one underestimate a simulated firing? Or does each side keep its simulated missile very secret? But then, how can anyone be sure its performance is a realistic portayal of the real thing?

    Those questions are quite interesting, but it’s hard to answer.
    The funny fact is that Greece has the Mica in its inventory !!! :rolleyes: But they still underestimate it. This remember me of the different max ranges you can find on different official sites, 60/80km.

    As far as i know, the true Mica’s performance is still secret, and in fact, the result are only known by some MBDA and AdA specialists who analyze every simulated launch during the debriefing, so as to decide whether the Micas could hit their target or not.

    Even the RAFALE M F1?! that´s new!

    Cheers

    Every Rafale leaving the factory. I didn’t finish my sentence. Then, retrofits should finish the job.

    Last Rafale fly away costs were :
    Rafale C : 53.4M € with VAT (= 44.6M € without VAT)
    Rafale B : 56.6M € (47.3M €)
    Rafale M : 60.8M € (50.8M €)

    will the Rafale F3 have AESA ? if yes, which one? I tried asking some Dassault reps, and no answer was forthcoming.

    In fact, the F3 will be a base standard. The F3 uses PESA.

    But for export, the AESA will be fitted. In fact, in early 2012, every Rafale should receive AESA.

    We’ve not posted for a while here.

    We have no good news. Rumors of decreasing the total number of Rafale are stronger now, as the publication of the “Livre Blanc” is closing.
    The 294 target number may be lowered by something like 50 Rafale… 🙁

    In Afghanistan, Rafale also use the Scarabée link, which allow ground operators to provide Rafale pilots with kill boxes, directly.

    commercialy it makes sense to have Damocles integrated earlier than that…

    But “operationally“, it made sense not to have 2 fighters for the same job. M2000D (AdA) and Super Etendard (MN) are LGB capable, and the Rafale received the LGB too mainly because the AASM was VERY late, too late for Afghanistan.

    That’s now completly official.

    A M2000D and a Rafale were called for help by a convoy under attack. As the visibility was bad (weather), LGBs couldn’t help, and the Rafale shot a first AASM (with the help of the Canadian JTAC in the convoy). 30 minutes later, the second bomb was drop, and as the visibility improved, the M2000D dropped a GBU-12.

    In clear, one AASM out of twenty five launched won’t reach its target.

    Some compares the AASM to a baby cruise missile.:D

    According the SPD it would be better to reduce the buy of Typhoons and equipe only 4 wings, but changing all aircraft to a multirole capable standard and with all wings taking over multirole tasks.

    I think it would be quite a smart move.

    I’d like France to do the same (but as far as we know saved money is just… saved).

    Reheated (90kN). But i think it’s the same on dry thrust (60/90k).

    Same source :

    In fact, during the same mission, the Rafale dropped 2 AASM, resulting on direct impacts on targets situated at 200 meters away from the allied troops.

    Coordinates were provided by a JTAC, and the pilot didn’t see the target (we lack the information to know why, so, probably because the shooting were done at a great range… ?).

    A2SM is now “combat proven”.:D

    http://secretdefense.blogs.liberation.fr/defense/2008/04/exclusif-le-nom.html

    The AdA has published the names of the next seven future Rafale squadrons (20 Rafale each) :
    In order :

    1. Provence (1/7, but nothing new of course)
    2. Gascogne (nuclear deterrence) (2/7).
    3. Normandie-Nièmen
    4. Alsace
    5. Lorraine
    6. Lafayette
    7. Cigognes
    8. Ile-de-France

    This will make 160 Rafale on the 234 originally planned. If more than 160 are ordered 😀 , then, new names will have to be found.

    PS : according to some serious rumors, the A2SM is qualified in the AdA since the 9th and 11th of April. And a Rafale dropped the first A2SM in Afghanistan on the 19th ! This means that the Rafale is now autonomous, though the A2SM isn’t a LGB (INS/GPS with booster) !

    1) Those discussions (between Russia and Libya) aren’t new at all. I have a T&A (n°6 July 2007) which already report about this;

    2) While those discussions were well known at the time, France entered exclusive negotiations with Libya, and it is to last up to July 2008;

    3) Rafale are for an elite force;

    4) Libya plans to replace a much wider part of its fleet than simply 18 fighters.

    5) I have yet to read an occidental, official paper announcing that Rafale is “out” in Libya, with comments by Edelstenne (Dassault CEO) and Serge Dassault tearing his hair out (he has shown really confident one or two month ago about this deal).

    My understanding is that the Russian’s offer comes together with Dassault’s offer. Libya could order both MiGs/SUs and Rafale, as they could be used for different purposes.

    The M88-3 isn’t anymore. Here comes the M88 ECO. 😀 Much better, no increase in weight or diameter, and +20% thrust. 😎
