It would surprise me if Typhoon got any kind of respectable kill:loss ratio during TLP.
๐
Sure.
using only sufficient performance and sensor performance to simulate a MiG-29 or Su-27.
Maybe. ๐
Even radar and missile breakdowns were simulated.

First AM39 Block2 mod2 firing from a Rafale M, just this morning (and the missile hit the target, of course).
http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=104986
This firing validate the Rafale’s anti-ship capability, for the standard F3 wich should be introduced in 2009 (in the Marine).
The fourth M F2 is being delivered.
So the OSF IT will have the same FLIR/IRST and a new TV/laser ranger?
No IRST at all !
Only an improved TV/laser ranger.
I doubt that they’ll bin the FLIR, TMor. Where did you get that from?
The OSF can be used as a FLIR, but the prefered solution is the FLIR situated in the Damocles pod’s pilon.
My source for the news is currently “Technologie & Armement”, wich is translated in english.
Search “T&A” (technology and armament), issue 06.
You may learn a lot in this magazine ! :dev2:
On upon a time… ๐
Rafale F4 was the designation of what was to come after the F3, and for 2012. But only in some magazines, perhaps.
Scorpion82 :
I wasn’t well informed on a particular point (or the decision changed):
Do you know if the dual band IRST/FLIR sensor will be upgraded or replaced as well or is it only the CCD TV camera which is replaced by a mid wave IR sensor?
Both.
I was wrong.
In fact, it’s really surprising :
-the final name seems to be “OSF-IT” (Improved Technology)
-the improvement is about the TV channel, but not about its range. I don’t know more.
-the IR part is neither improved, nor even kept ! ๐ก
The OSF-IT will just be the TV camera (improved), usefull to see what the targets are really doing… (but not by night…. ๐ก )
Weird.
Probably the AdA didn’t find it that interesting after all… !
the scenario is basically a plot to destroy a rafale during an international airshow
๐ฎ Even me, i didn’t dare this one ! ๐
Interesting the Rafale M with 1 Scalp, but still 6 Mica… ๐
Tmor: there are chances that you are right!
I am.
Watch it closer ! It’s the same pilon as here :
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/mirage-2000-5-pic.jpg
๐
here it is! an old and rare one… A pitty that the quality is very bad!
No !!!! The Magic II is mounted on the M2000 behind ! ! !
But it shows that the pylons were already developed and fitted.
Wrong : the picture isn’t what you thought !
Do you know if the dual band IRST/FLIR sensor will be upgraded or replaced as well or is it only the CCD TV camera which is replaced by a mid wave IR sensor?
Both.
About the AASM – wasn’t it supposed to work with Galileo signals instead of Navstar? Wasn’t that the reason for duplicating JDAM?
Maybe it’ll use Galileo, but in the first time, it’s GPS.
Don’t forget that the AASM has a propeller, to reach targets at >50km (HI) or >15km (LO). It can be launched 90ยฐ off boresight, and the pilot can decide the impact angle. Nearly a missile.
In addition, the INS/GPS is the first step… INS/GPS+IR will follow… This kit may also be used on 125kg bombs or Mk84 in the future.
The Damocles use an dual band IR camera, and is efficient up to 70km.;)
No problem for the reading : 30 pages is extremely long and boring ! ๐
AASM was developped to give a CHEAPER and all weather alternative to paveways.
Where did you read this ? ๐
Cheaper than the PW ??? Impossible. The goal was to give the Rafale a weapon cheaper than… The Scalp. Because the Scalp is expensive and cannot be used as much…
And so, the AASM is to replace all the existing weapons, from the mere free-fall bomb, to the AS30L… It’s a modern concept well fitted for the Rafale.
Yep. For each month of operation the CdG needs 18 month of maintenance :p

Nicolas : forget the F4, the upgraded F3 should do the job. ๐
Nice pics arthuro! Is that a USN Hawkeye on the CdG’s deck? It seems to have an 8-bladed prop, and the French E-2s use a four-bladed one, AFAIK.
Some of ours have been upgraded too.
The pod on centreline I guess.
No… It will be mounted under the right intake :
I am certain that I have seen it posted on this forum that there are structural issues with the use of the outer wing pilons and that is why they are never seen, I am just looking for some clarification.
Some one may have tried to explain it. But this hardpoint hasn’t even been tested. I’ve even read that Dassault still have to create a specific pilon for this point. It was proposed for export, but until they are paid for, Dassault won’t even try anything with these hardpoint. That’s all. ๐
Hmm. So far Rafale in real world ops less impressive. No multirole capability (it’s either A/A or A/G) and Damocles pod still not integrated (needed M2k for shining a light). Three aircraft over Afghanistan is also not that impressive. And all that talk of the yet-to-be-developed next version F4, promissing everything that the aircraft should be capable of doing for years already.
Distiller, you won’t convince me that you’ve read the full thread… ๐
Who talked about the F4 here ?
Rafale F2 (actually in service and in Afghanistan) is already multi-rรดle (thanks Scorpion). Damocles isn’t integrated yet, because the default weapon isn’t the GBU-12, it’s the AASM wich is a bit late, and should be operational by the end of 2007/early 2008. We’ve posted article’s about what happened during the Tiger Meet in September. We’ve talked about the TLP : this just reflects what the aircraft is capable of (as a swing-role fighter).
Damocles should be integrated during 2008 (planned for 2009). The aircraft is already wired for the GBU family. Additional efforts will allow for easier integration of non-french weapons (JDAM etc).
The new version of OSF, called OSF-NG, or sometimes OSF-IP (ImProved) will be tested by AdA in 2009 (the source isn’t very clear, i can’t say if it’s just tests or first operational use). This one wich should have a better range, is better for detection in ‘foggy’ backgrounds.
The AESA, wich had its first flight onboard the Rafale in April, will enter service on the F3 in early 2012, also with a new MWR (ir dual band).
All of these upgrades are funded and ongoing.
What’s the problem ?
I was under the impression that there were structural issues with the outer-wing pilons? Is this true?
How could we know ? I never heard about that, and I’ve never seen any picture in wich Rafale brought weapons on these stations.
Is it possible or am I wrong? If so why?
There’s no reason it wouldn’t be possible. Pay for it, and it’s ok. As Scorpion said, France just doesn’t need it.
I know how to spell investigate……. ๐
I was too tired, i forgot correcting ! (i saw it because i used the google translation tool to make sure the sentence was right)… ๐ฎ
LOL
But I am fascinated to know what did come first.
Me too… Who’s going to start the thread “invastigate the TLP2007”.:D
There was more than one Rafale loss.
Maybe… Ok, so, what do you know ? ๐ There were more than one Rafale loss, the Typhoon and Rafale weren’t pitted against each other, then what ?
I have the feeling that all you heard about the TLP was that several Rafale were shot down by a Jaguar and other aircraft (less advanced ?)…
And why are you doing your best to minimize what the Rafale did there ? ๐
Perhaps there may have been a ‘Prescott’ for the Rafale ๐ฎ or perhaps the F-15s or the Norwegians got lucky?
A ‘Prescott’ ? I don’t understand…
