Maybe they like the idea of “Fifty Shades of Grey”
Visited Brookland last year and that area was just a parking / store area with a few old lorries and buses. The hangar contains the Wellington, Vimy, Harrier T2, Hurricane, Sopwith Camel, plus several repo’s and some Barnes Wallis items . Lets hope the move and reconstruction goes well, and we have can have the chance to see (and photograph) the aircraft outside. I dontthink the Wellington has ever been seen outside, as it was pretty much restored ‘insitu’
bloody ridicules the next thing is Boeing will ask for money using a mustang as a pic subject
That has already happened. The last Airfix kit released of the P-51D Mustang in RAF markings as a starter set had the statement that Boeing owned copyright on P-51 and Mustang. Dont know if Airfix had to pay for such an agreement or if it was just a request to allow sales in the USA.
Perhaps I should have said, is it not the same seat as the Sabre ? If so is the Meteor also affected. Are MB are getting cold feet over supporting older generation seats ? That might mean problems else where in the vintage jet world.
What seat would be fitted to the Meteor F8.

Regarding German invasion from the East Coast. My grandfather lived and worked in Peterborough during WW2. He was a tool maker at Peterbrotherhood Engineering, then engaged in manufacturing torpedo engines. Many other Peterborough engineering companies were supporting the war effort. Peterborough was also a major rail connection, with direct access to the East coast via the river Nene. However Peterborough was rarely bombed, and even then it was often a mistaken target. Grandfather, who was also Home Guard, often suggested that Peterborough and it transport links were “saved” from German bombing because if invasion were to happen Peterborough and other East Anglian towns, would have been taken first by aerial assult. But I expect many towns and cities have similar stories.

For what it is worth, considering the lack of resources, the best option would be a Royal review on a Friday, followed by public weekend event / airshow. Fairford has been mentioned, but would be difficult to organise around the standard international airshow. They did a Royal review at Fairford few years ago and it was caused a lot of problems, several better locations but each has its own issues, Waddington, Coningsby and Brize Norton all have busy operational squadrons so could not accommodate the weeks of preparation. Maybe Benson or Odiham could be used ? Both have large helicopter fleets but also both have extensive parking areas. As for what to expect. Any flypast will be small in comparision to previous events, expect something like the Queens Birthday flypast (25 aircraft max) plus a few “historics” Best way to show off the RAF would be on the ground. Each currently operational squadron with one aircraft, the squadron colour and guard of honour. Really like the idea of collecting preserved airframes from around the country to be displayed as a nod to the past. It has been done before, the Centenary of Flight at Fairford had Meteor, Lightning, Javelin, Harrier roaded in, other missing types Canberra, Vampire, Meteor, Gnat could be flown in. Private collections and owners will be the key to this. Plenty of warbirds about, either airworthy or static.
As always cost will be the deciding factor will be money, although I expect the food / drinks bill for the Top Brass will be higher 😀
My 1979 copy of Air Transport Hulks, by Nigel Tomkins lists
JA6009 Miles Marathon (c/n 136) Nagoya Airport – preserved – on display
JA6010 Miles Marathon (c/n 137) Tokyo Tamateck Cycle Stadium – preserved – on display
Google Earth does not recognise the last location, but Tama Teck is/was a theme park, coords 35.64209, 139.39104. On sign of any aircraft and the site was closed in 2009, then brought by the near by university.

So big question where did they go ?????
C-47s of the South African Air Force are still in service with 35 sqn and a replacement has yet to be ordered. Although to be fair the SAAF Dakota’s are the turbo prop remanufactured versions.
Do C-46’s still fly in Alaska ? Any DC-4 still used as firebombers ?
Has the Blenheim been up today as I am told she was over Peterborough…
A pair of ‘heavy’ sounding single engines types were heading north over Peterborough about 1.00pm . Did wonder if any warbirds were up ?
16th June 1990 she flew over RAF Coningsby during the airshow.
Agreed the F-5E on Alconbury gate is only a plastic one but if the base is planning to move it it now would be a good time for interested parties to contact the base.
