Agree with Curleyboy. Blue badge holders are well looked after at DX. However if your father is normally fit and well you may not have a blue badge and the staff might not allow access. Suggest you contact Duxford and arrange a special access. I understand that wheelchairs and electric scooters are also availalble for hire on the day should you require it, although advance booking may be recommended.
For anybody that is going to be visiting Coningsby whilst the CWH Lancaster is present you should make note of the following which has just been put out by the local council.
The dates mentioned are the projected ones and are subject to change as per the note that says ‘Restrictions to be implemented as & when required during this period’
Hope this is of some use to those planning to visit so that you don’t get a surprise when you turn up and find that you can’t park next to the airfield, or anywhere within 1/2 a mile for that matter by the looks of it.TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTION: Coningsby

Whilst I understand and agree with the safety aspect of the road closure plans. I can not understand why alternative car parking can not to arranged with the support of local landowners, thus allowing both a road closure, thus public safety and the oppertunity to see this special event. Better still get your tickets to the many events when both Lancasters will fly together.
I will show my dad, but think they are Thornycroft’s
Thanks ErrolC just read that myself excellent news !!!
Any news if the two BE-2 are due to be flown from Old Warden to Stow Maries ? And if they will be returning to display at Old Warden later in the year.
I wonder what would happen if Farmer Giles said righto you can stand in my field but its £40 quid for the privilege, No ticket no entry ! how many would then go to the other side and pay £34 quid
Yes. If the photographic opertunities were better from outside side, which for much of the day at Duxford they are. I have both paid to go inside and spent time outside the fence. both have merits.
Very happy to see this sort of temporary exchange of exhibits. Lets hope we get to see something from “over the sea”, maybe a first world war type ?
Although with the cost in restoration and transport already budgeted for, it was a great shame that the Typhoon could not have been presented at Duxford’s D-Day airshow or event transported to France and displayed at Caen.
Well to say I am shocked is an understatement. When I stated this post it was with the best intention of passing on the information before the event the that the pricing structure had changed. An email was also sent to IWM, which I expected would have little effect, maybe others emailed and the management obviously looked at this website. So congratulations IWM, here’s hoping for a good weekend in July.
Now with such success on the airshow prices can we please ask that they fully restore the Shackleton and Victor and use the Hangars for aircraft (and tanks, ect) not rug shows car car auctions 😀
PAUL
But a very confusing message for the youngest who is told to look but dont touch one day and allowed to cover an aircraft in hand prints the next ????
“Special” Zimbabwean marking on pre-delivery Hawk :
Nothing to do with pre delivery markings. This RAF Hawk T1 was painted, along with a dozen others, to represent the countries then flying the Hawk, think it was Farnborough 2004, probably to celebrate the thirty anniversary of Hawks first flight
Are Hawks still in low rate production, T2’s for RAF ? IIRC they are still marking the Hawk for overseas orders. Maybe BAe could sponsor a “first and last” photo oppertunity
Two things, could the MODs or OP change the thread title .
Second would it not be great to have XX154 repainted in its original red / white colour scheme ? Whilst I know that Hawk is still operational, flying what ever trails are required, a change of colour scheme would be no harm, OK there is a cost but some times it is worth it, and I expect BAe have made a healthy profit from the type anyway.
I doubt many forty year old prototypes are still out here earning their keep ?
Not concerned with the merits of value for money. Just high-lighting a change from last year. I for one would have been expecting to pay single discounted entrance fee for myself and disabled family member at the gate. Not everybody will be carrying an extra £30.
As for pricing policy for seniors, and more importantly ex service veterans, I believe some discount should be applied. Indeed it is common for airshows and other events in the USA and Europe to admit all service personnel, if in uniform, and certainly ex service veterans free of charge.
What an amazing collection of images. You are indeed very lucky to be able to spend your days at Duxford. However I do not expect I am alone in wishing the IWM would issue advance notice of such a hangar change around. I would have been more than happy to pay the entrance fee and a little extra to photograph Meteor, Hunter, Bristol Fighter, ect all outside.
As an aside, I have been told there is a covenant on the land that should it ever cease to be used for its current purpose it would be returned to farming.
Not seen a corroboration of this anywhere, but stranger things have happened.
Covenants such as this were common in the early days of aviation, RAF Wittering has a similar agreement with its former owners. I guess that the reason being the Army / Navy aquired land for flying purposes with no clear idea that they would continue flying after WW1.
