Excellent idea and an event I would love to attend. But could you not have picked a better weekend, with Flying Legends and Fairford on the same day ???

Good news. What a great shame you could not aquire a complete Short 360. Maybe one for the future. Not for this thread but now is work on the 748 progressing ?

Interesting point Andy, and I totally agree. Less is more. Select the dates carefully thus allowing the enthustist to choice and the general public to be aware there is an airshow. have Shuttleworth ever held a two day show ? Thus allowing more types to be flown. ie Saturday evening followed by a Sunday show. Evening shows are hard to attend if there is a long drive home after.

Yes Agree with Tim.S. All the crews work hard to keep the place ticking over. Go support them on atleast one airshow, better still join SVAS, even if we can not support them in person the money is what really makes things happen.

May I ask a question. Who owns these two Spitfire I’s and what happens next ? I expect the owners who have spent large amounts of money on them will at some stage want to move them closed to their respective homes, or maybe wish to sell in order to finance other projects.

Also interesting to note different camo pattern, is that Type A and Type B patterns ? Guess things changed during the war and pattern / plans were often modified. Do actual war time photos of both these aircraft exist

Was AMHJ an ex Air Atlantique machine that was flown to Shawbury several years ago ? If so does it have reasonable hours, engines, paperwork that make the restoration worth while.

“RAF Transport Command Memorial’s First DC3” What is this organisation / group ? Does it have RAF support ? sounds odd as BBMF already have a C-47.

Sorry if I am missing something but. Today was N3200 first post restoration flight, correct ? Surprised I had not seen photos of engine runs and a fast taxi or two ? Surely they did not just fire her up and away ?

Many of the buildings Northside at Duxford are used by the IWM conservation staff as offices, workshop and stores. At least one buildings a climate controlled store for small items and uniforms. Easy to see the work carried out on the aircraft that dominated Duxford, but guess just as much work is needed to preserve a WW1 flying coat and goggles. Had a tour there once, totally fasinating to see the stuff in storage. Northside there is just one large building, looking like a MT garage rather than a hanger, never gained access to it but rumoured to contain aircraft. Anybody know more ? Had a Shackleton MK1 nose and dismantled Meteor T7 outside, both well know to this Forum for various reasons.

Income is equally important and perhaps without quilts there would be less to spend on aircraft.

Would agree the income is always welcome, but one wonders how much income is generated. Suppose we will never know. IWM do market the Airspace Conference Centre and would agree that as money was spent to include office / theatre / lecture rooms then these should be used, but if there is a market for a commerical display hall perhaps IWM should sell of the land between Super Hangar and M11 to allow a private developer to provide one. Were there not plans for a hotel in this area ?

I remember when they first opened the airspace hangar they were hoping to get more aircraft in there but due to health and safety issues concerning the spacing it didn’t happen!.

Perhaps if they did not have to keep emptying the Super Hangar extension two or three times each year for a car auction, conference or quilt show there would be more room for the aircraft. Strange I always thought the idea of hangar space was to display aircraft ???

Whilst the Avro Heritage Centre is a step in the right direction I hope the developers allow some space adjacent to the site for future expansion. Recognition of civil aircraft production would be nice with a HS748, ATP or BAe 146 being displayed. Also hope that cooperation will exist between Avro and the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. Last time I visited MOSI the aviation hall looked very tried and in need of structural attention. Some airframes had been removed and more have since gone. The Spitfire was moved out only last month. It has been reported that funding cuts are having an effect and maybe the aviation hall is not seen by the management as having enough importance. If indeed this is the case it would be a great shame to see the MOSI aviation collection be neglected. Whilst a new group to the south is just getting started.

Sorry to sound obvious, but have you tried to contact the team in South Africa who engine run a Shackleton, if they have had any problem or better still answers
