The roll out and new paint job is a key moment in any restoration. The question is how much more is left to do ? Obviously all things will come together when they are good and ready but what is the time scale for engine runs and first flight ?
Really pleased to see another 78th FG aircraft, such a shame that “No Guts” is no longer sharing the hanger, now that would be a nice pair to see in the skys over Duxford.
Brian. The Buchon flying topside is absolutely stunning. I bet you are really pleased and I hope the aircraft owner and pilot are suitably impressed also.
I like the tiger head on the F-86 not really sure about the black and orange strips ?

One would hope for some kind of dedicated Harrier display at RAF Wittering following the stations long association with the Harrier Force. As said they already have a GR1, T4 and T8, add the GR3 from the gate, a spare GR9 and T10 from Cottesmore.
Have the Royal Navy recovered their two FA2’s from Cottesmore yet ?, would be nice to keep one of those at Wittering as well.
Indeed hope Yeovilton Museum recieves a GR9.
No disrespect to exmpa but I am pretty certain what Rocketeer has is more like this http://www.laser-measure.co.uk/leica-disto/leica-runner-20-24.html.
What exmpa describes is an instrument which measurers a vertical height, the telescope not only rotates in the horizontal plane by 360* but also in the vertical plane.
As always Wikipedia is your friend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumpy_level
Paul
It appears to be a piece of survey equipment called a ‘dumpy level’.
Used to read the height of the ground by looking through the telescope at a measuring rod or staff, turning the telescope around to view another peice of ground and reading again, then use a bit of maths and you can work out a constance height or ‘level’ over a whole building site. It should be mounted on a large wooden tripod and once adjusted using the three brass turn screws, will be perfectly level and turn through 360*. Can not for the life of me remember why they are called “dumpy” they just are, what is the Vulcan connection ? They used to be a closely guarded, prized, and expensive peice of site equipment, today you can do the same job with a lazer thingy bought from BnQ for about £20.
Thanks. No news about the Demon ???
Did the Mil-24 leave Duxford or go into storage ? A photograph was taken earlier this year of it semi dismantled.
Looks great coming along nicely!! will it be at Legends!!! (Someone had to say it)
Diffinately YES (even if it is at the back of the hangar) Given the TFC excellent work in the past I am sure that is a date they have in mind and if the paper chase proves to much hope she can be out on the flightline for all to see.
Airliners not owner by IWM , they are owned by DAS, and if IWM could get rid of them they would.
IWM seem totally drive by International Museums standards which state that exihibits must in temperature controlled dry storage, even things like the intesity of intrior lighting should be reduced. Hence the money being spent of the existing hangars. These rules are fine when considering old fabric and art work but when allied to aircraft it gets silly.
Excellent news. Just looked at the web site and the work on the Gamecock looks stunning, never realised how advanced that project was.
So a couple of questions..
1. What form will museum take, a conventional aircraft hangar or do you have more Architectural designs.
2. How much is it going to cost and does the museum have a deciated donation plan, ie ‘buy a brick’ sort of thing.
3. And what is the time scale.
Thanks Paul
Who, What, Where, When !!!!!
Can somebody please translate the French web site or give a little bit more detail.
How many Nimrod MR2 airframes are left at Kinloss ? Is to late to hope that one can be roaded to IWM Duxford ? Crying shame they never got one delivered by air 😡
‘blue prints’ like that should be stable under scanner light, but best not exposed to constance dauy light ie in a picture frame. Getting the creases out could be an issue, not sure how resolve that ?? The scanned image can be ‘reversed’ to give a black on white image, and print, depending on the time and effort spent by adjusting the resolution some of the worst, tears and creases could be removed.
Hi James,
You could try the likes of Kall Kwik printers or Staples, the office supplies people, but be sure to ask that you receive the CD files as .pdf or .dwg format, prefferablely both. Alternatively ask at a local Architect or Consulting Engineers office both are likely to have the necessary equipement. Be sure to emphasize that the copy is for personal use, I am not sure about copyright issues but some shops can get fussy about such things.
Paul
You might consider getting them proffessionally scanned and reprinted to A1 size. (PM me if you have any questions about this as I may be able to help)This way you can keep a copy for your own interest, sell the originals and if you are so minded offer the copy CD to other interested parties.
