Anyone visiting the national ‘Hamfest’ event on the Showground this weekend, or travelling through to the LLA Member’s Day at Coningsby – why not consider popping over to the museum to see the Viggen outside, plus see the Vulcan / Shackleton?

Not long back from NAM and it’s good to report that the Viggen has been moved in preparation for its Car Photography and Night Photo Shoot sessions, both taking place in the next 10 days.

It will still be outside for the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble on October 12th and it will then be moved back inside, sometime after that event – so that Saturday could be a good chance to support the Aeroboot and grab some Viggen photos!!

No signs of ‘any’ activity in Titchfield Park on Monday afternoon – I couldn’t even find signs of the paddling pool! :confused:

Later on I did resolve the Greasley Mosquitoes though!! 😉

Tony,

The YouTube idea is a good one, but why not consider giving a live demonstration at an event like an Aeroboot / Aerobilia / Aerojumble sale or Cockpit-Fest; I know that you have done something similar before by working on you cockpit during an event, but why not formalise it and promote the fact that it’ll be taking place?

Anything that promotes and encourages aviation is a winner in my book!! 🙂

Happy to ‘host’ a chin-wag in the Dambusters Hut after the event on October 12th – could I suggest we leave the time flexible for now, but would happily set a time if people prefer.!

If anyone wants any fliers to distribute for next month drop me a postal address via PM and I’ll get some sent out.

It seems to be an insidious thing of late berating others, take the DHL thread attempting to home a 727 for free with a museum, far from embracing the idea, a lot of posts were the opposite, if not derisive.

Personally speaking I don’t read the comments in the 727 thread like you have, but that could be down to interpretation.

The 727 offer was originally circulated via email to BAPC members on Thursday 19th September, so presumably the fact that it’s been posted here (with BAPC approval) on the 20th indicates there is little appetite for taking up the offer by the UK’s museums.

As a further update, advice has been sought and acted upon from Ceconite; paint manufacturers; local glider builders; and the previously mentioned Shuttleworth ‘visitors’ – also earlier re-covering projects have been successfully completed by the NAM team on the Monospar, as highlighted here without any problems.

The only difference noted in the recent test is the paint colour, on the Monospar the tail frames were grey – all products are from the same suppliers. Thanks for your suggestions.

The Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble listing service is now online in here – entries can be submitted via the normal communication channels!

Thank you for the additional feedback, which I will relay back to those undertaking the work. However I’m not sure it is quite as simple as the wrong mixture of paint types, because I believe they’re using compatible paint systems. The inference was that it seemed to be more down to pigmentation issues on certain paints – sadly I didn’t have the time to get into the precise details; that said I may have misinterpreted what I was told!

The matter needs to be resolved as it could also have an impact on the other larger projects like the Monospar.

An addendum of information follows that relate to a couple of other museum events:

The passes for the Day / Night photo shoot event that features the Viggen have all been despatched – the vent has sold out.

They have also started to send out the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble passes for the sale in October; if any sellers want to add details to the event listing on the NAM website they can email through details like on previous occasions.

I was over at NAM today and I’ve been able to check up about the frame colour. The final colour depends on getting a suitable batch of paint that will accept the fabric covering without having any adverse reaction. Some trials have been undertaken with a black frame paint, which sadly reacted with the fabric.

NAM’s Auster team has been in dialogue with some visitors from Shuttleworth who have made a number of suggestions about how to neutralise these reactions – further tests will be undertaken to get a suitable system that works for the Auster rebuild.

Whilst looking over the project this morning I was advised that work has also been done on the Auster’s rudder. A photograph of this section has been added to the NAM website gallery. Work is also in hand on the horizontal tail sections!

I also noted some further progress on the Monospar, which I understand will be reported at a later date on the NAM website. This particular project seemed to impress a group of Australian enthusiasts who were visiting the museum today!
