I guess with Tony’s book signing offer that there will be three signing sessions taking place during Cockpit-Fest; below is an extract from a news release that has just been circulated:

“At this year’s Cockpit-Fest event on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th June, 2013, the Newark Air Museum will be hosting two book signing activities, one of which involves a strong local connection. This all takes place at its site on part of the former RAF Winthorpe airfield in eastern Nottinghamshire, close to the border with Lincolnshire.

The first book being signed is ‘The Phantom in Focus’ – this is a Navigator’s Eye on Britain’s Cold War Warrior is a new book by David Gledhill and it features photographs of the Phantom cockpit at the museum taken in XV490 and the museum’s procedures trainer cockpit in Hangar 1. The author, David Gledhill will be at the museum on both days to meet, greet and sign copies of his book.A special limited edition copy signed by over 60 “Phormer Phantom Phlyers” will be raffled in aid of Service charities. The draw will take place on Sunday afternoon before the event closes.

On Sunday 16th June, the museum will be hosting a book signing event and talk by author Chris Keltie. This will be the third in a short series of launch events for the new book entitled ‘Riding In The Shadow Of Death’ that tells the story of Lancaster bomber pilot Bill North who with his crew trained at 1661 HCU at RAF Winthorpe before moving on to Ops with 61 Squadron at nearby RAF Skellingthorpe, Lincs.”

Thanks for the offer searchlight, however this particular 619 Squadron crew is already commemorated in display at Newark Air Museum; as briefly mentioned in here!

The daughter of the bomb aimer also has her own website in memory of the crew and it details a lot of the research that has done into the Op that they were lost on. If you are interested I can PM you the weblink.

Addendum: I almost forgot, next week the niece of the rear gunner lost on ME846 is travelling to England and she will be visiting Newark to donate her uncles Log Book to the museum.

I have been involved in researching a 619 Squadron aircraft that was lost on the raid and I found the site most useful. There are a few typos but nothing too great to worry about.

Like Air Ministry I found the photograph difficult to read, but maybe there could be some clues in the website that help with decoding the data.

Thank you for working on everyone’s behalf yesterday Brian it’s greatly appreciated and I’m sorry that you cannot be with us this year.

If you let me have a PDF file of a poster or something I’ll make sure that it’s printed out and displayed around the site.
