I managed to grab a quick look at the aircraft yesterday and they do indeed appear to be transfers of some type that are applied to XX829.

They have both been over-painted by NAM members and it is only the side that was shown on the NAM website, where the transfer is the wrong way round. (They must have big saucers down in East Anglia!) :highly_amused:

The provisional BBMF flypast times were notified through yesterday; with the following participants due to attend:

Saturday – Spitfire
Sunday – Lancaster, Hurricane & Spitfire

The timing details will be released at the event, once they have been finally confirmed.

The provisional layout for the event was discussed last weekend; there is a concerted effort to bring things much closer together and this will be more over towards the Southfield Site and Hangar 2.

I’m also hearing whispers of a rather nice cockpit addition from someone that posts about these parts!! 🙂

As far as I can tell nothing is meant to be secret, however as I stated earlier – “As it’s not been covered in the website text I’d prefer not to be too precise” – normal courtesy would be to check with another organisation before using their name in any PR material; I can only assume this has not been done in this case.

As I’m told that it’s all over a social media site then as far as I’m concerned it’s in the public arena!

I have been advised that the former location has now been posted on a social media site so I guess there is no point in further secrecy – it came from Thorpe Camp and I understand that it might be a Mk.2!

Something that I forgot to mention in the original post is that I was also told that there may have been an ITV film crew with him IIRC from the Calendar regional news programme – does anyone remember seeing anything?

Whilst trying to start sorting out the administrative aftermath of David W passing away, the Aeroboot / Aerojumble organisers for the June 15 & 16 event have become aware of a slight hic-up regarding some bookings. If your cheque has not be cashed yet please do not panic – you should have already received your event passes and your space to trade at the event is safe.

In checking through the paperwork, as of yesterday passes have been sent out to 22 different sellers; plus two further bookings arrived this morning.

Spaces are still available and booking forms can be requested by sending an email via the link on this page! Please remember that passes will need to be pre-requested if you have more than one vehicle / person attending this event!!

The formal dedication of the Milton memorial took place last Sunday (19th May) and was attended by around 500 people; there is a short write up available if you follow this link http://www.military-airshows.co.uk/press06/memorialprmay2013.htm

Plus in response to an earlier question the Milton Mausoleum was originally commissioned by the wife of the 4th Duke of Newcastle in 1822 – with a slightly ironic connection a similar mausoleum also existed at Ossington, but this was demolished in 1838.

I heard that the person who originally purchased Vulcan XM594 at Newark was taken out on to the airfield at Waddington to take his pick!

That said I’m not sure how correct it was or whether it’s just a ‘good story’.

I wasn’t being too serious jr – I just needed to get the ‘plug’ in – the motor auction might not be too bad an idea though!!

Apparently the presenter ‘James’ went to school with the museum shop manager’s son in Bingham!!!

As it’s not been covered in the website text I’d prefer not to be too precise – from a Lincolnshire location, close to a former Bloodhound base is as far as I can go on this one!

From the look of your photograph I should have stuck with my initial instinct and come back outside after I’d done my ‘work-bit’ photographing the two veterans in the post-service function in the Visitor Centre.

In the event I tried to photograph the flypast from a vantage point in the Visitor Centre, but with minimal success! Such is life!!

If the Cockpit-Fest flypasts are anything like the one last Saturday for the Lightning event then everyone will be in for a real treat! Also it seems as though the Cockpit-Fest & Aeroboot layout will be heading much closer to Hangar 2 this year – so there’ll be no nodding off between visitors!!!!

Anyway to try and get back on topic and to resume something like normal service – anyone want to buy a drop tank? :highly_amused: Four (4?) known owners, as seen on TV!!!

Yes it was good to see you on Friday, did you get a better view of the Lancaster flypast that I did? To be honest I felt slightly disappointed on Friday afternoon but they more than compensated for it at Milton on Sunday!! :eagerness:

Yes, the news from Newark wasn’t good – although we believe that David W may have just seen the Lancaster before he passed away.

We are currently facing a major challenge to get everything sorted out to cover the work he did at the museum – if anyone tries to tell you that ‘succession planning’ isn’t important please don’t listen to them – oh if we’d been able to persuade him to do more of that before he went!!!
