I have just telephoned NAM and confirmed that – the broken remains of the engine casting from the 2nd October 1940 He111 crash at Chapel St Leonards are still displayed in the Engine Display Building at Newark Air Museum. The more complete engine that was recovered went to Tattershall – as per my earlier comment in #6. 😉

Did the other engine move over to Thorpe Camp?

There are several He 111 losses recorded in “Lincolnshire Air War 1939 – 1945” – including one lost off Chapel St Leonards on 2nd October 1940, which was partially recovered (engines) in September 1967 and the remains destroyed in March 1973.

(Ross beat me to it – I believe one of the engines came to NAM and the other went to Tattershall.)

Perhaps a change of newspaper might help, even the BBC headline reads – “Philpott gamble? Osborne chose words on welfare carefully, says Carole Walker”
