Thanks for the kind comments Anon – wherever possible NAM does try its best to assist! 🙂

For those that may be interested another list of items has been listed in here – something to do with aircraft covers; now where did we hear about those first? 😀

Despite what some forumites would have you believe about the BBC I am greatly encouraged by the emphasis that they are currently placing on aviation.

I am personally aware of at least three different aviation series that they are commissioning at present. What’s more they’re also talking to different aviation museum /groups about filming at their locations – what’s even better some are even talking about filming fees!! 🙂

At the request of Anon I have arranged for a more detailed list of items being sold on Saturday to be added to the NAM website here in the usual place! 🙂

If any sellers want to email through similar lists I will get these added to the NAM website ASAP – I will deal with such request up until 8pm tomorrow evening (Friday 1st March). Most of you will have my email address if not send me a PM and I will let you have the relevant details.

I hope that this service proves to be useful to buyers and sellers alike. 🙂

Sorry for the delayed response but I’ve had a rather busy couple of days.

The idea is a good one but you are getting involved in quite a busy area regarding oral histories and the like. I’m involved with several such projects both personally and professionally and there are a lot of organisations doing similar things, often with a lot more funding support behind them both from HLF and other funding bodies.

This might be making people reluctant to ‘join in’!

As a suggestion it might be worthwhile following up a contact via this weblink
http://www.modoracle.com/news/Armed-Forces-Day-Events_27081.html as they have grants available that might cover this type of project. That said it is quite a detailed application process.

The weather outlook for Saturday’s Aeroboot / Aerojumble is looking a bit better, with temperatures set to climb (a little)!

The stallholders ‘drinks carrier’ is being dusted off 😉 and the local publicity is settling in nicely, plus there has been a steady stream of visitor enquiries about the event:

Sadly a few of the anticipated last minute stand allocations haven’t materialised (forms sent out but not returned) – so for the first time ever a NAM Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble may not have sold out! 🙁

Still, 37 tables have gone to 30 different sellers! Plus we are aware of several parts exchanges that are due take place. Hope to see everyone on Saturday! 🙂

I’m not sure about a book but a DVD was produced, reviewed here!

IIRC it was also briefly featured in another DVD about Shackletons by Black Eagle Projects and this was once on sale in the NAM Shop! 🙂

Blue_2 – All of the Victor bits are being quarantined especially for you guys, just in case they contain any traces of horsemeat!! 😀

robdd1 – I’m sure that they’ll save some bits for you; it might be worthwhile heading round to the area near the Cinema /Gnat in your search for Tornado parts, on stalls 40 to 42! As for the Vulcan access, with a good turnout of visitors due they may carry on opening up until the afternoon! 🙂

NAM’s latest anniversary album has been uploaded in here and this time out it covers 1991 to 1999 and features : Hunter F1, Draken, Mooney, Canberra PR7, Tiger Moth and Wessex; plus loan aircraft of the RAFM Oxford and the ‘Leicester / Leicestershire’ Museum Service Auster. 🙂

Recently returned for Newark, where all of the tables for Saturday’s Aeroboot / Aerojumble have now been moved into position around Hangar 2 and labelled up.

Details about the types of goods being offered can be found in the news item listed in here!

I have been asked to remind people that buyers will not be admitted until 9.00am and that this time will be strictly enforced. Admission for the event is just £4.00 per person and it is recommended to get there early as most sellers seem to start packing up at around lunchtime.

The seller seems to be talking about the Newark Aeroboot / Aerojumble event that runs alongside Cockpit-Fest in June; not the one this coming weekend!

In view of the book references being cited I thought that forumites might be interested to note that the main text that I sent through to the BBC’s David McKenna came from the family of Errol Galbraith Knox:

“The Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918
Volume VIII, ‘The Australian Flying Corps’ by FM Cutlack (Angus and Robertson, Sydney, first published 1923). Appendix No 5, pp 430-433, features an account of the system of training pilots of the Australian squadrons in England, in the first eight months of 1917, described by Errol Galbraith Knox.”

It’s always good to see different aspects of aviation being covered by the BBC and others. I sent through some material to David McKenna in the autumn to assist with his research, sadly it doesn’t seem to have been used. 🙁

The material I copied him with related to 3 Squadron AFC and some early flight training guidelines they established while based at South Carlton, Lincs in 1916/17; fascinating times in the regions early days of flight training. 🙂
