Yesterday I answered a PM’d question about the likelihood of the Vulcan cockpit on XM594 being open during the Aeroboot / Aerojumble on Saturday March 2nd, I thought that it might be worthwhile sharing the information about these parts.

Having checked with the museum cockpit openers – the Vulcan is likely to be open during the Saturday morning on March 2nd – a small additional fee of 50p per person is required for access; people must be at least 1m tall to go inside the Vulcan!!

As ever up to date information about all of NAM’s activities can be found in here! 😉

It was brilliant weather jr – job well done. It’s carried on this week as well, encouraging out lots of visitors to NAM for the half-term holidays – plus there’s the Vulcan open day on Friday 22nd February. 🙂

😉 As predicted on the Venom thread the latest anniversary album in here features ‘Meteor Corner’ circa 1989 c/w VT229 in the foreground; some delivery photos of the Dove and Venom NF.3 ex-RAFM store Henlow; plus the build work on Hangar 1. Enjoy!! 🙂

Addendum: All of the passes for the March 2nd Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble were posted out last Sunday.

That was an unashamed plug, T.O. – you just can’t help yourself, can you?:)

You seem to have scored a bullseye there, though:D – long live the Plugmeister!

Yes, the Canberra’s another one to add to the list of unappreciated jets. Perhaps it is because there were so many Meteors, Sabres, Canberras, Venoms etc, that people have been blase about them?

    Anon.

Plug or call it whatever – I’m very proud of how NAM tries to help Meteor projects and the like with advice, assistance and occasionally ‘non-accessioned’ parts. 😉

A little bird tells me that there is likely to be an interesting ‘Meteor panoramic’ photograph in the Anniversary Album that’s due to go live later today on the NAM website (now with true plugging a link would have been included here!) This may include the fabled F4 that now is resting in a store in Florida! 🙂

With a lot of luck there might even be a glimpse of a Venom NF3 – freshly arrived from down south (Henlow?) in April 1983!! 😉

A good supply of Meteors, Canberras and even a couple of Venoms on display here! 😉 Plus maybe some cockpit access coming up on 14th April 2013.

Not sure whether Tribute to the Canberra will be repeated as an event, the last two weren’t as successful as the first two; Tribute to the Meteor has a ring about it, but it may have to wait until after Tribute to the Lightning and next year’s re-run of Tribute to the V-Force (May 2014).

I guess that it depends on which story that you chose to believe – another ‘urban myth’ does the rounds on Key!

Another version, as told by a ‘comedian’ relates to a celebrity game show host Hughie Green (see the other thread) and a TV show in the 1960s; interviewing a former Polish airman – same script about a dog-fight and the same punch line!

Details about another AHL 617 Sqn commemorative event have just come through to me, which I thought might interest a few people about these parts:

“As part of the commemorations during that week, AHL is also organising a black tie/cocktail dress gala showing of the original film the “Dam Busters” at the Kinema in the Woods at Woodhall Spa, Lincs.

This event is taking place on Wednesday, 15th May 2013 and it will be a ticket-only event. Following a flypast by the BBMF Lancaster escorted by two 617 Sqn Tornado GR4s the film will begin showing at 7pm.

After the film there will be a champagne reception and buffet at the Petwood Hotel, Woodhall Spa, which was the home of the wartime 617 Sqn Officers’ Mess. Here guests will be entertained by a local Royal Air Force Band. Also included as part of this event is a prize draw organised by the Leonard Cheshire Trust; tickets will cost £25 per head with proceeds going to the Lincolnshire Bomber Command Memorial Appeal.

For more information on the Kinema in the Woods event please email: dave.harrigan(AT)lincolnshire.gov.uk”

Congratulations to everyone involved with arrangements for this afternoon’s commemorations jr – it was a privilege to attend such a friendly gathering in such wonderful surroundings!

As for the weather – is there any chance you can help organise the events at NAM and bring the weather with you?

The crew were remembered in great Nottinghamshire style – well done. 🙂
