A couple of ‘progress shots’ taken this morning of a damp Jaguar T2A have been added to the Jaguar Album on the NAM website – a lot of panels have now been refitted!
Since people who have some idea about these things are reading this thread, I’ll ask my question here…
If I were to take my Frazer Nash Lancaster front turret to Cockpitfest in June, would there be any restrictions on installing and displaying the guns? They are de-activated with certs, etc.
I’d need to check whether it was covered under NAM’s firearms certificate!! 😉
It’s my understanding that some discussions have taken place via email re the Warbird Alley concept – but I am not aware of any conclusions having been reached. Someone else on this forum may have more knowledge of this point.
The format of the 2012 judging is still to be confirmed. This is likely to be resolved through discussion with event supporters – including some who have still to be formally announced.
To be honest at present a lot of organisational effort at Newark is currently geared towards the Tribute to the V-Force event on April 28th & 29th.
So all things considered it looks like being pretty hectic throughout April and May – so some things don’t seem to change!
That said Cockpit-Fest 2012 looks set to be a belter!! 🙂
Its Grey it came out of RAF Leeming spares recovery in last 24 hours so the likely hood of it coming from down south to a car breakers in North Yorkshire within 10 miles of Leeming where 27 of them are being broken:diablo::diablo::diablo: is highly unlikely.
Mike E
😀 …. will it be at Cockpit-Fest?? :diablo:
Aeroboot – 16th & 17th June 2012
Summer Aeroboot bookings are now into double figures and yet again it’s nice to note that a couple of new sellers have decided to participate in some ‘face to face selling’!
As has been posted about these parts before NAM’s Sea Harrier ZA176 served and details of some of its Falkland exploits can be found in in this article!
I’m sure there’ll be lots of ‘gin’ at the Saturday evening do for this reunion later this month!! 😉
Not that I’m aware of.
I believe that Rocketeer was merely making a ‘play on words’ comment using the word “Collage” 😉
Foiled again, but it’s lightened my day a bit though!! 😉
Hi Peter, I presume that you’re referring to the Viggen cockpit, which certainly is one of the most complete in the collection!
The End-User Certificate that was completed to secure the aircraft for Newark places certain restrictions on what can and cannot be done with the airframe; ground running is something that is forbidden.
As was posted earlier – “Viggen cockpit viewing is currently being evaluated (new cockpit opener) as part of a plan to undertake some mini ‘Saab Tours’ in this 75th Anniversary Year of the company i.e. Viggen, Darken and Safir, which are all displayed at Newark. The cockpit opening team is still waiting for the formal launch of such a project, which is being slightly held up as many people are busy trying to sort out a few impending projects!”
Part of the ‘impending projects’ was a reference to the Jaguar acquisition and a potential new colour scheme for the Lightning, which should be announced in the usual place in the not too distant future! 😉
Not quite sure if anyone’s interested but tomorrow NAM is hosting a small car group visit by a local branch of the Alfa Owners Club! 🙂
Our Heritage, Your Heritage – Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire
Never thought about putting the AHL video links into this section! 😮
It is viewable via the following links.

A new AHL video interview with Les Rutherford from Lincolnshire who was a Lancaster Bomb Aimer on 50 Squadron based at RAF Skellingthorpe during the war has been uploaded uploaded onto YouTube and Vimeo and the relevant links are:

Some oral history recordings have also been added to the AHL website and these can be accessed via via links in here!
Enjoy!
Thanks for the observation re-XS417 but WADR to the OP, NAM’s example is a gutted shell and it was cut to move it back in 1988; albeit in a different manner to most of the others.
Sadly it is unlikely to go inside in the foreseeable future; but at least in the last 12 months it has yielded some useable spares for some ground-runners. 🙂
The airframe is due for turning round in the coming weeks to allow more work to be done in better conditions on the other side of the airframe. When that happens more pictures will be added to the Album in this Gallery! 😉
ok,
so where is the nearest one to me, Coalville Leicestershire, with easy access with car or even 8 wheel truck for me to take hundreds of close up photos for the detail on the planned drawings.:D
Sorry that I’d missed the earlier request – one of the oldest Dove’s in preservation G-AHRI can be found here – most approaches for photography access are accommodated! 😉
Someone was photographing the Bulldog cockpit yesterday when I was at NAM. 🙂
….
I agree with T64, it should still be remembered and taught in schools, which sadly do not have History lessons anymore..
Sorry Jim I have to disagree!
So far this year I’ve hosted 4 education visits at Newark (World War II & Evacuation topics) and look what your namesake county currently has to offer http://www.ahleducation.org.uk/
