A couple of post-Christmas news updates can be found in here – one of which may interest the plastic kit modellers out there! 😉
I understand that the 1/48th Lightnings have all been sold!!
It depends on the size and weight of your load; there are a couple of albums in here that show deliveries using traditional cranes but also ‘hiab’ trailers that feature in-built lifting arms!
Season’s Greetings from everyone at Newark Air Museum and please don’t forget that we’re back open at 10am on Tuesday 27th December! 🙂
A ‘Post-Christmas NAM Tip’ – don’t stand still for too long in the Museum Shop or you’ll be counted up in the stock-take!! 😀
Have a great Christmas everyone.
Again as the owner he can paint it what ever he wants and , just good to see it being looked after and far from detracting from it’s history he is adding to it, would rather 20 years down the line see it and read xyz painted in fictitious 31 sqn markings rather than fell derelict and scrapped….
🙂 I cannot disagree with your comments – however the next time I have to deal with an abusive email from a ‘spotter’ accusing the museum of “… deliberately setting out to confuse and mislead him and the public ….” I’ll forward it over for you to reply!! 😉
Fair enough. Still prefer it elsewhere. Thankfully I was lucky enough to visit it whilst it was at its previous home. It’d be nice to think the 1 Sqn Association may possibly consider placing it in the public view in future, particularly with one of the future basing possibilities in mind!:D
WADR, from my understanding of the situation the Association lost that debate about 10 months and 1 week ago!! 🙁
Sadly sometimes aircraft owners add to the confusion – as Newark has encountered when the owner of a certain Canberra PR7 allowed it to be repainted in 31 Squadron markings and ‘fictitious serial!’ 😮
We do our best to ensure that no one is left out; with that in mind I’m pleased to report that The Stirling Project exhibit has now been added to the second album! 🙂
Surely it would still be possible to have a line up of cockpits etc in chronological order, with the owners who are willing/able to participate in the line up, & another section for those who are unable to do this ?. I know that it may take a little organising, but then hopefully everyone will be happy.
Bob T.
Everything is possible, but what is practical can sometimes be a slightly different matter. Especially when you have to try and take into account, specific Cockpiteer requirements e.g. power supply, extended exhibit space, cockpits from different eras, camping space, etc – however I’ll try to ensure that we’re able to reach an acceptable outcome for everyone! 🙂
John, sorry for the delayed response you now have an email and PM.
😮 Apologies for the omission John – I still cannot find you in my own photos! 😮
If you get me the image over I’ll have it added to the album later this afternoon.
It is kind of appropriate that the topic is Stirling related; just off to Stan Bray’s funeral and whilst instructing on 1661 HCU in the summer of 1944 he survived a forced landing in EF125 at Little Stanghton and from baling out of EF444 at Staningley, Leeds.
I give in …. I thought your ‘rather special display’ is due next year!!! 😉
I tried to ensure that they covered all of the displays from 2011 – apologies if we’ve missed anyone! 😮
If anyone has photos of ‘missing displays’ they can email copies through to me and I’ll try and get a third album added!
A second album from Cockpit-Fest 2011 has been uploaded this morning – anyone for spot the forumite?? 😀
Season’s Greetings from everyone at Newark!! 🙂
How do you do it T/O!:D
……. Lots of practice!!! 😉
Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire could provide contact details for the catering support!!
“16th May 2012 – Falklands Campaign 30th Anniversary
“Sailing With The Queen” An evening talk by Chief Pattisier Stephen Hallam about his exploits from pampering passengers luxuriously cruising around the world to suddenly being thrown into the cold and stark reality of the South Atlantic Campaign.
Venue: The Branston Hall Hotel, Branston, Lincoln, LN4 1PD” 😀
Sound’s really interesting TT and XM172 – the wider the range of items the better in my book! I think I have email addresses for you both so I’ll make sure they’re passed on to WOS.
I have already started to gather a few contacts on the ‘supporters front’ for prizes etc and this includes trying to pitch the event to a TV contact! 😉
As part of that work for the event I have been wondering about the following ‘judged’ categories / eras for the cockpits (based on year of manufacture?). 😮 First time out for this idea and just a few thoughts to bounce around!
Up to 1950
1950 to 1960
1960 to 1970
1970 to 1980
1980 to date
I know the phrase “can of worms” may come to mind, but what do people think?
Stan’s funeral takes place at 1.30pm (Friday 23rd December) at Ollerton Crematorium, Notts.
